Do trekkies even matter anymore? They couldn't save Enterprise- despite that hilarious "Let's raise 52 million and give it to Paramount for a fifth season" collect-a-thon. And they were probably the only people in the theater that even noticed, let alone cared, that the new movie is a reboot.

Of course, the mainstreaming of Trek leaves open the possibility that some clever new tv producer can come along with some incredibly convoluted and canon-heavy nerd show to fill the void. It could be successful if the budget were low enough.

So it sounds like you aren't a real big Trek fan. Are you a NuTrekker?

You apparently perceived the new movie as being ok for non-nerds (whatever the hell that means). Frankly what I saw in that movie was a reinterpreted original series with shiny new effects. It's a glorified TOS fan service with a big budget, a remodeled '60s Trek but with zero originality. It tries to be super hip and trendy but at the same time dishes out plentiful cheese and a plot that definitely was not anything new to even Trek.

Meh. I think I'm ready for another try at a reboot. Go for something beyond "extreme makeover" this time.

no, my proof you ask? Abrams is still the director for the reboot sequel.

Im a trekkie, and I LOVE the fact that Abrams and co are making a sequel.

...but that's because the Powers That Be kept trying to "reinvent" Trek instead of sticking to the core idea (a ship, named Enterprise, boldly goes. And meets etc.) .

Thus explaining how the series named Enterprise where they boldly went was the first Trek series to get canceled since the original?

That isn't what killed Enterprise.

Being in a home with a tween girl, we loved the family aspect of Trek. Smartly written, and with characters like Dax and Kira and Troi that little girls can relate to and admire.

Enterprise sold the hell out, deciding that since 7 of 9 helped Voyager limp along a few years more, they'd take it to the next level and have "decontamination" scenes.

My family completely boycotted Enterprise as a result.

And I just don't get why so many people like it; let alone Star Trek fans. I can't wrap my mind around it. It's bad enough that it is a betrayal of everything that Star Trek was and represented, but it is also just plain a horrible, horrible, horrible movie. I've never seen a movie THIS bad, ever.

Simple, you're delusional. Oh of course you have the right to your own opinion, but when this many critics and fans like, no love this movie then you have to question exactly what's wrong with yourself. Feel free to go explore this in meditation.

This forum is the perfect place to start threads on your distaste for the movie, just be prepared for it to disappear quickly since you are in the vast minority.

Exactly. Anyway, everything that came after TOS (including some of the TOS-cast movies) did as much or more to "hurt" Star Trek than this movie did.

Why drone on endlessly about something you don't like? Just ignore NuTrek if you dislike it so much. Alot like what I do with Voyager and, to a lesser extent, Enterprise.

I wonder why Trek fans are often so grouchy. Perhaps it is a sign of intelligence.
