List your guilty pleasure music.

One of my big ones is Seal's Kiss From A Rose. Love that song.

With where my tastes have gone the last several years, I think disco, and mainly the Bee Gees would count as guilty pleasure more than ever.

Though I'm in no way admitting guilt.

And my favorite of all the Bee Gees songs

Ar-P, Bee Gee's are a good guilty pleasure band... I think Stay'in Alive has to be a top GP Song for many, especially when you end up doing the travolta strut with it.

I don't feel the least guilty about them, but I know what you mean, so here a few chosen at random...

Gloomy Sunday....my wife and I have been listening to various versions of this for the past few years....and we have not committed suicide yet.

I don't know why anyone should feel guilty about liking that song. It's a nice ballad.

I mean, it's not like admitting I love Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time."

Oops.
:alienblush:

Does ABBA count as a guilty pleasure? In any case, I love this song. And what’s more, I’m not even gay!

^ Kinda depends on what you normally listen to I think. I've been more of a classic rock & metal guy my whole life.

Symphonic Metal the last several years almost exclusively.

I think disco is still considered more of a fad music genre.

I love ABBA too. That's one of the best songs ever.

As far as Kiss From A Rose, here's a little different version, from 4 symphonic metal lead singers calling themselves Northern Kings.

Oh, I like that.

I don't really feel guilty about it, but in the spirit of the thread.....

I've always liked them. Very cool sound.

To me a song that would be considered a guilty pleasure, would be one that is generally considered bad but you like.

Let's examine a few of the songs

ABBA "Dancing Queen" - UK Number 1
Carl Douglas "Kung Fu Fighting" - UK Number 1
Bananarama "Love in the First Degree" - UK Number 3
Seal "Kiss From a Rose" - UK Number 20

So it would appear a fair few charted well. So is it other factors at work :-

For men is the song you like considered a chick song?
Of course sometimes a song can become so popular that admitting that you like it is actually a negative.

Like I said, I think disco has a sort of stigma attached to it, for whatever reason.

And maybe a certain style of 80's music too, which I also have fond memories of, like this:

Disco is one for me. In my younger days, when disco was new I hated disco. In the words of Brian Seltzer of the "Stray Cats" :

Well, we found a little place that really didn't look half bad
I had a whiskey on the rocks, and changed half a dollar for the jukebox
Well, I put a quarter right into that can
But all they played was music disco man
Come on, baby, baby, let's get out of here right away

These days I get a bit nostalgic when a Bee Gees song comes on the radio and I'll sing along. My younger self would not approve. Lord knows he'd be rolling his eye if ABBA or Duran Duran came on, as well.

I suspect our age also plays a part in the music we like. After all as we get older we can get more nostalgic for things from our childhoods. So do we tend to favour music that is similiar in style to what we listen to one the radio/TV as we grew up?

The music of Unknown Hinson is one of my current guilty pleasures. For those of you who don't know who Hinson is, his real name is Stuart Baker and he provides the voice for lead character Early Cuyler on Adult Swim's late-night cartoon SQUIDBILLIES. His real life speaking and singing voices are exactly the same as the voices he uses in the cartoon.
