Guilty Pleasure Songs...

"Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl, with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there..."
That’s the one song of his I like.

BTW, does anyone else think Don Henley’s “The Last Worthless Evening” sounds like a Barry Manilow song?

...and now I blame you both for an earworm I won't be able to get rid of...

"Her nam was Lola, she was a showgirl, with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there..."

<continues singing>

I will get revenge!

Look on the bright side, Shanndee, I have Can't Smile Without You earworming me. And, yes, I know all the lyrics.

My brother is still into Manilow, even the latter day stuff.

I like some of the 70's songs, but don't go out of my way to listen to them nowadays.

A little off-topic, but here’s a cute parody of Barry Manilow’s “I Write the Songs”:

(Ironically, Manilow didn’t write “I Write the Songs.” It was written by Bruce Johnston.)

My guilty pleasure song is "You're the One that I Want" performed by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta from Grease.

It hasn't got much to do with the lyrics, but I like the sound of it, and the chorus "you're the one that I want" makes me think of my wife. Unfortunately recent events have made this song mean just a little less to me.

The movie wasn't much to brag about, but some of the songs were incredible.

^^ Xanadu had some great songs, thanks to the abundant talents of Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. But the movie was one huge “WTF??” from beginning to end. I only wish the MST3K crew could have dug their claws into that turkey.

Couldn't agree more. The film was a drug trip, and not a particularly good one. But the soundtrack was pretty exquisite and the vinyl album or CD are definitely worth owning if you're a Jeff Lynne/ELO and Olivia Newton-John fan, which I am...especially ELO. That band was the Beatles of the 1970s.

Whether or not it contributes anything of note or any real value beyond just being 'catchy,' I never really had a problem with this song.

The TrekBBS itself has its own guilty pleasure song, although a whole lot of people aren't aware of its existence to this day. How this thing didn't take off like a Delta rocket I'll never know. Immerse yourself in the humor and songwriting acumen of one J. Allen:

I'll show you a guilty pleasure song:

Determinate
Never heard of the song or the band before, but the singer is totally hot. I just wonder if she could hold a note for more than a second without auto-tune.

EDIT: Oh, it was a Disney Channel movie. The hot chick is Bridgit Mendler. So is that a scene from the movie, or a live performance by the actors in the movie? I mean, seriously, are those supposed to be high-schoolers? :guffaw:

And speaking of beautiful babes of dubious vocal talent, here’s one of my truly guilty pleasures: Brigitte Bardot singing (well, sort of) an ode to a motorcycle in a 1968 TV special.

And he went there. :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Props to you, sir. (Well technically to J too. ;) ) :techman:

Bridget Mendler, the lead singer, is better at it than most of the latest Disney crop. Here's the band performing the same song live on the View:

Actually, the first clip is from another Disney show, "So Random", which spun off from a Disney show starring Demi Lovato, the rehab girl.

And yes, Bridget Mendler is smoking hot.

As a self-proclaimed rocker-babe, my other guilty pleasure is "rocking out" to Cher and Celine Dion. *blushes*

Watched Never Mind the Buzzcocks earlier; now can't can this 80s classic out of my head...
