Goodell has the power to overturn Saturday's game costing penalty. But should he? If he overturns the ruling of illegal contact that would change the NFC playoff line up. As I understand it, he could have the whole game replayed which would give each team little rest before the final season game; or he could have the game restart from the beginning of the Lions last possession, which would also work against both teams; or he could have them replay the 2 point conversion.
None of the scenarios seem fair to either team as they risk getting players hurt and lose a day of rest. It's because of the above reasons, and now how close we are to the end final game that the ruling on the field should stand.
A possible fix could be having the refs and judges miced and recorded throughout the game so we can hear what is being said to them. I think there's enough leeway to say that the Lion's player may not have said anything and just have pointed to himself.
Now I know that it is probably too late to do any of the above. Goodell should have ruled on Sunday. So the ruling should stand.
But what do you think.
