Flanderization of Klingons

I'm not a huge Fan of the TOS TV show but when I went back to revisit a few I noticed the Klingons (brown face aside) are actually pretty smart and use strategy at times to solve there problems and don't always resort to fighting and in Star Trek VI they could play politics pretty well. Then later in TNG despite Worf a Klingon being part of the Enterprise crew the Klingons have gotten worse. Now they are only about war and fighting and mostly their war strategy is just shoot at it! They also seem to despise anything that borders on an intelligent solution. I know later on Star Trek VI and DS9 flesh them out a bit more, but I find it bizarre that the more in depth TNG dropped the ball on the Klingons. Is there an in canon explanation or just the writing is muddled?

Klingons vary greatly from episode to episode. TNG certainly had some odd ones, but then there was the Redemption arc with the whole chancellor thing that showed more subterfuge and the infighting of the houses.

Klingons are a race that need a careful writer and the quality varies a lot. Despite my own personal irritation at the TNG style Klingons because of stereotyping, there are good episodes in TNG, DS9 and even VOY. I think DSC did some good with showing off more art and culture but there is still a struggle with really fleshing them out.

I think that Star Trek 6 did the best the showcase a good variety.

But, Star Trek is know for its flanderalization and the Klingons are no exception. That's why OK with the DSC Klingons. I would like an opportunity to explore more of Klingon culture.

I haven't seen DSC because its just not for me, as for the Klingons well i cant say anything about there cultural portrayal, but as for the make up i think they should have just stuck to the TNG design with some more racily sensitive TOS style thrown in to acknowledge the ENT retcon. I just dont like the DSC design.

Even if one doesn't care for the make up, the expansion of design language of armor, fashion and ship design is appealing to me.

I did see the first episode (as it was actuly on CBS) and I gonna say everything was to angular for me. While the effort to make the Klingons only speak Klingon while they were on their own ship is interesting it's undermined and made silly by the fact that THE SUBTITLES ARE IN ALL CAPS! for some reason

Let me be clear-the look is not what I would have done, nor is all of it aesthetically pleasing to me. Neither are the Klingons. And, in my opinion, that's great. Make them more alien because that's what the experience could potentially be like. More variety, not less, even if I don't like it.

They fix it a bit later on, and probably will continue with the "course correction" into Season 3. But if you're looking for political machinations and strategic chutzpah, you can't get much better than Discovery Season 2, with a Klingon spy in a leading role, and episodes devoted to the Chancellor on Qo'noS (not to mention the temporal mysticism of late in the season), you're really missing out on a very healthy mix that leaves Star Trek VI (my favorite Star Trek movie) in the dust.

Its probably just me, I know its strengths and its Icon status is well earned but to me it can be a hard sit through an hour of most of the episodes. I much prefer The TOS movies over the TOS TV show
