did the ancients never develop beaming technology?

Well the stargates themselves are teleporters in a way and they used teleporters to get around on Atlantis.

wouldn't it be easier just to beam to and from them planets in stargate universe?

Destiny clearly predates Atlantis and all other Ancient technology of that era. They may not have had beaming technology.

Besides, if the purpose of the ship is to construct and distribute Stargates then you have to make sure they work!

The Ancients had beaming technology - that's how you get around in Atlantis for a start.

I think he meant off-site beaming, like the Asgard had, not platform-to-platform beaming like the ring transporter and the transporter/elevators in Atlantis.

The Ancients had beaming, this has been shown.

First of all, the Ancients invented the ring transporters.

Second of all we found out that the transporter rooms in Atlantis actually beam you to locations, and the sound is similar to the ring transporters.

Thirdly we saw that in the episode: "Avalon Part 1" beginning of SG-1 Season 9, when they are in the cavern finding the Ancient treasures, the treasures are "beamed" in with a yellow colored beaming light, it is the same type of Asgard beaming, but yellow instead of white, and since this was an Ancient thing, that there is your Ancient beaming.

Here is more info on it plus a screen grab of the yellow beams - http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_beam_transporter

So yes, the Ancients had beaming.

It seems the Stargate was still a faster way of traveling planet to planet, and this is the method the Ancients preferred.

"I don't know about this beaming stuff! Is it safe?"

"Oh yes, sir. Snotty beamed me twice last night. It was wonderful."
