There seems to be much debate about the worst season in all of Trek. But equally as interesting is the debate about the best season of all Trek. So let's have at it now. ...

Which Season of Star Trek, is the best?

Three.

This is impossible for me to answer. I can narrow it down to TOS 1&2,TNG 3 and DS9 4,5,6. I'd have to go with TOS 1 just because it established the series so well and was good right off the bat.

I think highly of TOS-1, TNG-4, DS9-7. I also think TOS-2, TNG-3, TNG-5, TNG-6, DS9-2, DS9-5, VOY-4, DS9-6, ENT-3, ENT-4 are fairly good seasons too.

There's only one possible answer--the first season of them all, otherwise we wouldn't have any Trek at all! TOS 1.

The absolute best would be mid-S5 to mid-S6 of DS9. But having to choose by season is hard - I flipflop between S5 and S6. S6 had some amazing individual episodes but S5 had more consistency, so I'll flop for S5 this time around.

Interesting how TOS S1 is getting a ton of votes but not TOS S2. Is there really such a mammoth difference?

Great episodes

TOS S1
The Enemy Within
The Menagerie I and II
Balance of Terror
Tomorrow is Yesterday
Space Seed
A Taste of Armegeddon
The Devil in the Dark
The City on the Edge of Forever

TOS S2
Amok Time
Mirror, Mirror
The Doomsday Machine
I, Mudd
Journey to Babel
The Trouble With Tribbles
A Piece of the Action
The Ultimate Computer

Pretty comparable...main difference is that S2 had the good comedies!

I think I'll go with TNG S5. It's my favorite season of TNG, and TNG is my favorite trek, so...

I voted for DS9 S6 but easily could have gone with DS9 S7 instead, it's too close to call. No other Season of Trek even comes close to those two IMO.

For me TOS Season 1 had probably twice as many great episodes as season 2. However I voted ENT Season 4 as my favorite Star Trek season. Out of 22 episodes there is only one I don't care to rewatch -- Daedalus.

I voted for DS9 Season 7, but I don't know for sure which is my favorite. TNG Season 3 is a definite contender, and so are some of the other DS9 seasons.

TOS Season One gets my vote. It still holds up today for its consistency and breadth of storytelling.

As a DS9 fan I'm kind of surprised that Season 7 is the top vote-getter for the series. While it did have the amazing ending arc, it also had a lot of filler episodes that really fell flat. Overall, it's a very good season, but to me seasons 5 and 6 were far superior.

I can't speak for others who might have voted for DS9-7 but for me I thought it was DS9's best season. While Season Six had the outstanding Occupation Arc, it was only six episodes long whereas The Final Chapter was ten episodes long and covered a lot more ground. To be fair both had a weak link--"Sons and Daughters" and "Extreme Measures".

But then season six felt like it wandered aimlessly after "Sacrifice of Angels" with a lot of middling filler-Change of Heart, Profit and Lace, Valiant, Times Orphan, Resurrection, Who Mourns for Morn etc. That isn't to say Season seven didn't have some annoying filler but it did have a sense of urgency precipitiated by the show ending that forced the writers to focus more on loose threads so we got interesting stuff like the two part premiere, Treachery Faith and the Great River, Inter Arma Silent Leges plus some nice ensemble fluff where we got to spend a few of the remaining hours with the crew(Badda Bing Badda Bang and Take Me Out to the Holosuite). And while there was some average stuff I didn't find it as boring as some of the stuff in season six or as bad as say Let He..., Ferengi Love Songs, Parmach in season five plus they usually helped advance or set-up things in the Final Chapter if nothing else.

I think out of the last three seasons, season seven just had more focus and it didn't hurt that I thought the show was always better when focusing on its core material like the Dominion War.
