Precooked chicken strips are good inside tacos, specifically soft ones.

We went to a new place for dinner last night; Fuzzy's Taco Shop. Horrible name for a restaurant, but great tacos. I had two soft tacos, one with spicy shredded pork, the other had shredded beef. They also came with refried beans (dry), and latin fried potatos, which were very good. My wife had the hard shell shredded beef tacos which were good, and beans in some sort of bacon and beer broth which were the best.

They both have their places. Anyone who dismisses the soft-shelled taco completely has never had a decent fish taco in their life. Sorry, but it just doesn't work with a hard shell.

If you're going for the American fast food chain style taco I would vote for the hard shell, it's just a little less gross. If you're going to Taco Bell, Doritos Locos Cool Ranch or bust.

I prefer the soft tacos, but really it just depends on what kind of mood that I am in. They each have their place. Shrimp tacos pretty much require soft shells, for instance.

I grew up eating hardshelled tacos, but I prefer the softshells. I love tortillas.

Taco Bell? Jack In the Box? :ack:

Is there a difference between a soft shell taco and a fajita?

My area isn't particularly blessed with taco sources. Except for Taco Bell the Tex/Mex places around here tend to feature burritos or fajitas, meeting the crunch demand with chips and tiny bowls of salsa and/or a sauce that tastes like ranch dip with some pepper blended into it.

There were once a few Jack In the Boxes around here, but they closed decades ago. There may have been some issues with one of their suppliers providing tainted ingredients to some outlets at the other end of the US at the time. One former Jack and the Box spent years with a cartoon character know for begging for hamburgers on its sign before being converted to a Rally's. That Rally's is a real oddball for that chain, since it has an indoor dining area.

I made some Hard Shell Tacos last night. BBQ Pulled Chicken with Cilantro Straw topping. It was AWESOME!!!

Soft. Mainly because I have a softspot for this restaurant on the North shore of Hawaii that served really good fish and shrimp tacos.

I grew up on hard shell tacos (soft tacos were mainly a breakfast thing involving chorizo and Sunday mornings.) and occasionally I have to go get some to fulfill the odd craving for seasoned ground beef, shredded lettuce and cubed tomatoes in an explosive crunchy shell. However, soft tacos are where it's at. Easy to make. Easy to eat. Minimal mess. Fill them with anything. Fill them with as much as you like. (And no stabbing your gums with random shards of pressed corn meal.)

Tacos are a sandwich made in a folded tortilla. Fajitas are seasoned grilled skirt steak (or chicken). Traditional fixings are grilled onions, peppers and tortillas. Fajitas are often tacos, but not all tacos be fajitas.

Always a soft taco guy. The hard ones break & get the ingredients all over the place.
I agree, with the exception of the Doritos Locos from Taco Bell [it is the only Mexican fast food in our locale].
More often then not, when I'm making Tacos or anything requiring 'ground meat' I use ground turkey.
I do the same. Ground turkey needs more seasoning for most dishes. This is why it works so well with tacos.

This is the reason I have come to prefer soft shelled tacos. Most commercial hard taco shells are too thick and hard for me. I prefer a light, thin crunch.

In my mind there is nothing, NOTHING better than a grilled shrimp taco with some good Mexican cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, HOT picante sauce and served in a warm, white corn soft tortilla...

THAT is heaven...
