Honestly, I would love for another film in the style of the original, and go really big with it. I think that would generate interest. That's true, but I just question if there's really enough interest left in the franchise to make it worth their time or money to make it.
“I am sure MGM and Amazon will do something with the franchise. I am less sure if I will have anything to do with it. A few years ago now, MGM reached out to me and asked me to develop a pilot script for a new series, but so much has changed since then, including all of the players. Amazon is probably deciding what to do with Stargate as a tent-pole franchise and that may take some time. I wish them well.”
I wouldn't hold my breath on that. RDA is retired from acting, Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping have moved onto behind the scenes work and Don Davis is dead. Chris Judge is the only one regularly acting anymore, and even he seems to be focusing on voice acting on recent years.Personally I hope they start soon with a Stargate project, I hope with Brad Wright and the old cast
Even if there is a new Stargate project, I don't think the cast from the TV series will return. Maybe they can make a TV series with the same cast from the 1994 movie. Or they can reboot it completely. It's more likely they'll make a second one.Personally I hope they start soon with a Stargate project, I hope with Brad Wright and the old cast
That's even less likely. Though Kurt Russell has always been generally positive about Stargate, James Spader hated the movie and claims he only did it to make ends meet during a lull in his career.Maybe they can make a TV series with the same cast from the 1994 movie.
Before Amazon bought it in 2022, MGM was planning a TV show that would be a sequel to Stargate SG-1. Everyone who played in the TV series and was still alive was open to coming back. And they wanted to. But after Amazon bought MGM, that project died.I wouldn't hold my breath on that. So that's why a reboot project is more likely. That's even less likely. Though Kurt Russell has always been generally positive about Stargate, James Spader hated the movie and claims he only did it to make ends meet during a lull in his career.
There's also their ages to consider. RDA's in his seventies, Judge is in his sixties while Shanks and Tapping are in their fifties. And while I'm sure they're reasonably fit and healthy, running around through Vancouver's pine forests might be something they'll have to leave in the past. Before Amazon bought it in 2022, MGM was planning a TV show that would be a sequel to Stargate SG-1. If Amazon is going to do a project like this, I don't think the actors will run around in the woods. The original TV series would probably be a different, higher-budget job. Considering that the actors are B-class actors and that Amazon hasn't added these TV series to Prime Video worldwide, it's more likely that any work related to this franchise will be a reboot. There's also their ages to consider. If it is a sequel they'll probably bring in a younger main cast who will be the actual team that actually goes running around in the Vancouver forests or California deserts or whatever, and any returning original casts members will probably be running things at SGC. My guess would be that we'd maybe get Sam or Daniel running things at the SGC, with any other returning characters just making occasional guest appearances. I really can't see the whole team being back and going on missions on a regular basis at this point, both from a real world and in universe position. There's also their ages to consider. And as much as I love SG-1 (or perhaps because I love SG-1) I do NOT want to see it get the Picard S3 treatment.
