About to visit NYC. What shows should I see?

In a few weeks I will be taking my customary yearly trip to New York. What are some good Broadway shows that are there right now? Anything, really, not just musicals. I would rather avoid things that I've seen already (like Movin' Out - even if it's still there, I've already seen it twice 'cos I'm a huge Billy Joel fan).

That being said, I still wish Urinetown was there 'cos it's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen on stage, and I've seen it THREE times.

Aaaaaanyway. Anybody got any recommendations as to what Broadway shows I should look into? And where might be a good website I can check things like this? (does Broadway itself have an official site?)

Les Mis and Showboat will forever be my favorites.

Ever go to the Opera? I try to go at least once a year, with La Boheme being a personal favorite.

Hairspray and Wicked are both wonderful. Chicago is a perrenial favorite as well.

We just saw Damn Yankees at the City Center and it was great. It closes though on Sunday.

"August: Osage County" is a wonderful play. It won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony this year and is well worth the time. There have been some cast replacements since I saw it, but by all accounts they're just as good, especially Estelle Parsons.

Go with Wicked or Les Mis, if only because you unfortunately missed the Ian McShane-starring revival of Pinter's The Homecoming.

I tried getting a ticket to South Pacific but the matinees were all sold out. :( So I'm going with The Thirty Nine Steps.

[Title Of Show] does look interesting, I may check that out too if I have time (after all, I've got baseball games to see! :techman: ).

Try to watch a lot of Hitchcock movies beforehand.

I can't remember the last one I did see. I think it was North By Northwest.

I do know that they are not all the same, of course. The Thirty Nine Steps is basically a comedy, innit?

The play is. The film is not. But you'll want to watch a bunch of Hitch beforehand. His greatest hits, as it were. You will be rewarded. Enjoy!
