Garak from Star Trek Deep Space Nine is a character wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a spy. However, like most things in Star Trek we can learn from it. Here is 5 Life Lessons that Garak taught us in DS9.

Keep your eyes open, no matter what your circumstances: "Oh, you'd be surprised at the things you can learn when you're doing alterations."

"Never tell the truth when a lie will do." To bad I can't lie for anything, I would be a much better vulcan than a cardassian. I really like the name Elim though.

A great intro to the character of Garak, but as always with him there's so much more going on beneth the surface that would take so much more than a youtube video to get into. Not entirely sure he was designed as a character to be emulated though...

(PS, is the whole being a "man" and a "geek" at the same time a real thing or satire of masculinity?)

I personally don't think he is a character to be emulated, merely to be marvelled at. He certainly wouldn't want our sympathy-- Ezri tried that and look what it got her

In answer to Kira's line, "She loved you."
Garak: "I could never figure out why. I guess I never will."
:weep: Maybe not a life lesson, but memorable.

Garak was pretty silly if he couldn't figure out why. How many Cardassians was she around? Her fellow prisoners with the Breen, no chance of a relationship there. Dukat. On Cardassia she was an unacceptable half-Bajoran, and on Bajor she was an unacceptable half-Cardassian. Garak is the only one who was interesting and available to her.
