Does anyone have a favourite regeneration story? Mine would definitely have to be The Caves of Androzani.

I have a soft spot for Logopolis. The runner-up would be The War Games. It's a better story, but not really a regeneration story. In fact the regeneration seemed to just be tacked on to the end.

Of the two that I have seen (POTW and TEOT), The End of Time was the best.

For me, it's a dead tie between "The Caves of Androzani" and "Logopolis," but I went with "Caves" because I thought the Fifth Doctor went out in style in his most action-packed story ever.

"Logopolis," however, had this slight sense of impending doom throughout the entire story. Even the TARDIS cloister bell room looked like a cemetery to me...

The only thing that prevented "End of Time" from making my list was the Ood singing the Tenth Doctor to his end from across the Galaxy. That kind of ruined his final moments for me...

If "The End of Time" had about five to ten minutes of self-indulgent cheese removed from it, I would probably rate that one as pretty much my favorite.

Ditto. And since the only regeneration stories I've seen are that one, The Parting of the Ways, and the TV movie, my vote goes to The Parting of the Ways.

Well obviously the very best regen story is Caves of Androzani, for it gave us the introduction of the very best Doctor in the history of the series - Six.

This really is a poll where you either need to exclude Androzani, or ask people to name a top three. Androzani's going to win by miles as it is, whereas my second and third choice would be a hard choice between 10th Planet, War Games, Logopolis and Parting of the Ways.

How are people voting for The Parting of the Ways? It's got the most blatant deus ex machina I've ever seen or heard of. Just beating Journey's End and a story I wrote with Daleks and the Fourth Doctor when I was 8 or 9.

Logopolis was the most compelling actual story, but I preferred Androzani overall. Only thing I didn't like about the latter was the annoying tendency of the corporate bad guy to do asides to the camera.

I only saw Androzani when I was very young, and don't remember it being that great an episode, but as an Adult I imagine I'd see it differently. I really should see it again.

But I'm afraid I have to go against the mob and go with "End of Time". Sure some bits of it were annoying... essentially a lot of it could have been cut and it could have been one episode really... but it really was a very approriate send off to a very popular Doctor. And regardless of the "Cheese" it really got to me and I balled my eyes out like I was losing a friend. I never cried at any of the other regenerations, I wonder if anyone else did?

I'd pick the Androzani regeneration as my favourite by a mile. And even though I can't stand the "Bad Wolf/Super Rose" shite in POTW, I did like the regeneration. I did not like the latest one. Eurgh.

I’m new here so hello, etc…

I’d agree that War Games and Caves Of Androzani are probably better stories than Logopolis. However, I would choose Logopolis as my favourite purely because the regeneration is a subplot from the off. Rather than an element tacked on at the end like a number of other regeneration stories. I’m not a massive fan of Christopher H. Bidmead’s more esoteric ideas but I thought his notion of The Watcher was excellent. Tom Baker’s performance is also superb. He really gives the viewer an uneasy sense that all is not right and that impending doom is not far off.
