College Football 2022

Here is your thread to talk about the upcoming college football season.

I’ll be heading to Los Angeles on Friday to attend USC’s home opener with Lincoln Riley now at the helm.

You gotta love college football.

Let’s go!

It really is just another version of pro football now.

Sort of.

I think there’s still something palpable about a college atmosphere that you really don’t get in the pros. Maybe that’s just me.

For me, a lot of that feeling dissipated with multi-million dollar coaches and hundred million-plus dollar facilities.

Yeah everyone here was talking about that yesterday. Very interesting development.

Currently in my hotel room, waiting to go out into scorching heat for the USC game this afternoon.

:ack:

I don't think college football can any longer be seen as a simple feeder system to the NFL. They are now the competition for eyeballs and dollars.

The early national game is Michigan vs. Colorado State and so far it's 37-0 in the third quarter. Colorado State even tried to go for it on fourth down and it turned into a touchdown going the other way. How do you deal with getting your butt kicked like that? You prepare all week for one game and then are completely ineffective, getting destroyed on both sides of the ball. Of course, a lot of these games are set up just to collect a big payday knowing your team will get humiliated.

So who’s Alabama playing for the National Championship again? ;)

Texas has Musk, but we have Saban.

Maybe he could get the energy vampires out of Boeing…

Well the USC game was fun, in that it was a rout.

It was NOT fun, in that it was 100 degrees. I’ve never been so hot in my life.

What the heck happened to Oregon?

I'm a USC alum and I've never liked the way 'SC pays some nobody team to take a beatdown the first week of the season. I get why they do it- it's safe, and a last chance to work out the kinks before hitting conference play, but they just seem like empty games and honorless wins.

The OSU-ND game was how you should start a season. That was a fun game to watch.

Mostly these days I just tend to root for Navy anyhow. Disappointing most weeks, but a much cleaner program.

Everybody does it. It's how most of these FCS and G5 teams continue to operate. I've watched JSU get obliterated by teams, but also come away with wins at Georgia State, FIU, FSU and Ole Miss while getting paid to do so.

The NFL could put an end to college football with one rule change.
