College Football 2022

It's happening, so Colorado, USC and UCLA are leaving in 2024. If the Pac-9 can't fix things (San Diego State would bring it back up to 10) with a good media deal, Washington and Oregon are probably next.

After the season they just had in Baseball, why would SDST want to join the Pac Conference. It would be like taking a step backwards.

The Pac-12 is dead. Washington, Oregon and Arizona want out. That leaves six teams (Stanford, California, Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona State, Utah). Either this conference folds or turns into another lower tier Mountain West type.

Rutgers/Oregon is now a conference game.

This reality sucks.

Broadcasters are driving these mergers and if they keep it up they will kill college football. The moment it becomes the NFL but with less talent is the moment it will become a footnote in the annals of football history alongside every other failed startup league and Sewanee's and Tulane's founding memberships in the SEC.

Between the conference re-alignments and student athletes getting paid as professionals, I think college ball has a foot in the grave right now.

And let's not forget, these realignments only arguably work for football. What about all the other sports? Are the water polo and track teams going to be flying transcontinental for competitions? Do those programs have that kind of money?

On a different note... we're getting very close to the start of the season and I'm starting to get nervous about things I wasn't worrying about a few weeks ago. Our center is out and expected to return before the opener but of course I can't convince myself that this will actually happen. Now, suddenly I'm worried the entire OL is going to be a disaster. And what if....?

This is from last year but it's still true, especially for Tennessee fans (but for any fanbase that's been through a down period like we've been in and developed certain negative tendencies):

I just saw on my local news the new Big 10 conference map that the University of Washington is joining. WTF. Did anyone involved look at the logistics of this. The travel those football players will have to endure is going to have an affect on their performance both on and offield. There's no way the UW has an above .500 record this season.

Especially since Cameron Davis, their starting RB, is out for the season.
