College Football 2022

Starting the day with Purdue at Syracuse.

Wild second half.

My Trojans have a 7:30 kickoff. I hate these late night games. Keep me up past my bedtime…

Whup Troy. Jax State played Tulsa and got demolished in all phases of the game. Rich Rod probably came unglued on the ride home.

Also, I noticed UCLA played South Alabama today. Maybe we can get a game with them at their next opening if they're making the Bama rounds.

Herm Edwards out as ASU coach after 1-2 start and possible sanctions. Came to a "mutual agreement" with the school.

Did he get a “vote of confidence” just before, as the kiss of death? That’s how it usually happens :/

If y'all have never watched SEC Shorts you should. They are very often laugh out loud funny but sometimes they're a little too 'inside'. This one is perfect. Penn St. arrested for murder:

On another note... my Vols have climbed to 11th and we're staring down Florida week. For the first time in the history of the series (starting in about 95) we are favored by 7+ points with most lines at 9.5 to 12.5. Fans are expected to checker Neyland (which is something we had planned to do long before we realized we'd be more than a fringe top 25 team) and College Gameday will be in attendance. This past Saturday's matchup against Akron was a sell out - not some paper sell out but a full house in attendance - against AKRON! To say that this fan base is dying for some level of success after more than a decade of frustration is the biggest understatement you could make about college football.

It's Florida week and for the first time in a long time we have the better team. Not just one that matches well on paper but the clearly better team. And yet we've seen so many losses when we were only slightly better (or who was better was more of push) that our fan base think it's voodoo. We're excited but the moment the first play goes against us every one of us will be waiting for the inevitable kick to the nether regions.

We need this win so bad. And when we do win - you can expect Knoxville to absolutely explode.
----------------------------------------

Also - Joe Mooerhead disappointed me. Akron is the dirtiest team we've played in decades and I say that as someone who witnessed an uncalled dirty hit on our QB by Alabama last year that knocked out several of his teeth. They were taking cheap shots every play, twisting ankles and knees after plays, hitting guys in piles, jawing and basically acting like absolute trash. It was like their entire game plan was two things 1. get them to fight 2. try to knock out their key players. To that end, they knocked out Tillman (arguably the best WR in CFB numbers wise), injured two RBs, and tried to knock out our QB and those are just the highlights. I had mentioned long before we had a player lose his cool and start throwing wild haymakers that they were attempting to get us to fight them - you could see it coming. And what's worse, is the refs did nothing to rein it in and they could've.

When/if you see the footage of one of our second stringers losing his cool and throwing punches, you might hear the announcers say it was unprovoked. It wasn't and even in that replay you can see the DB hanging off our guy's facemask.

What I'd like to know is does anyone know if Akron played Michigan St. similarly? Is this who they are? I ask because one of the reasons Moorehead got fired from Miss. State was the fact that his own players were fighting each other. And even at the end of our game when players are on the field and saying good game, their QB is trying to fight ever Vol he sees and had to be separated from everyone.

Some good early games today.

Clemson survives double overtime at Wake Forest. And the Texas/Texas Tech game was wild! Another overtime thriller.

Of course I won’t be able to watch the USC game tonight. Thank you very much PAC-12 network.

:scream:

Starting the day with Kentucky at Ole Miss. Good game so far.

Looking forward to NC State/Clemson this afternoon.

Cats gave that game away but OM looks like a good team this year. That said, can we please STOP the "Will Levis is the number 1 draft pick" talk? He's just not that good. He looks the part but that's it.

The game that surprised me tho was.... Mizzou vs UGA! I mostly watched LSU v Auburn because I thought UGA would just steamroll Mizzou (and honestly they should've) but Mizzou made UGA struggle mightily and proved there really isn't a college team right now without some flaws.

Vols are headed to Death Valley to face LSU this coming Saturday. It will be our 3rd top 25 match-up and after that we face BAMA with UGA and UK still waiting in the wings. I don't know what to make of LSU right now. At times they look good but at other times they look awful. Our secondary will keep every team we play in games and that makes me nervous. There's a JUCO transfer they're saying is healthy for the game that we haven't seen play yet that I'm hoping adds a boost to our passing defense (not much could hurt it at this point).

Official blows whistle for phantom fair catch.

Okay @jenji120 what the hell is with those uniforms?

Smokey Grays. Those were introduced in the Butch Jones Era when uni makers gave everyone a gray and before we had a proper black alt (something we had 100 years ago but hadn't had again until last year). I'm not a big fan of the grays but LSU insists on wearing white when they play at home and I think we're wearing black against either BAMA next week or UK (probably UK though bc of proximity to Halloween and oldsters flipping out if we were to wear black during TSIO/Bama). The only cool thing about the grays is the helmet but you have to up close on it to see it - shows the mountains.

That said, if/when it helps you beat LSU at their house like they're a NAIA team, I'm all for them!

This is why you kick an onside kick into the ground first, so that the other team can't call a fair catch.
