Never seen someone fail so hard and succeed so much.Oh, Kurtzman. Everyone knows he's been secretly trying to destroy Star Trek since 2017, but instead he keeps accidentally making all these successful series that not only get renewed year on year, but also get multiple spin-offs greenlit.
Poor guy can't catch a break.
Poor Kurtzman... if Discovery gets another season, that means he's going to get fired at least seven more times until it finally airs.
Clearly they can, and they have. It speaks to their level of confidence and satisfaction in the financial returns on the series. How can they justify the expense when there aren't even numbers for the third season yet?
Where can we see how many people are watching?
Indeed, yes. And we have no right to that information either. CBS will do what's in their best interests. Why does it matter? If it’s 100 people, or 100 million...it’s enough for the only reason that matters- CBS considers it successful and is making more. Doing a phallus-measuring exercise regarding viewership is meaningless. Companies don’t double down on things that don’t make money. That’s generally a bad business model.
That's the one thing that has been a bit disappointing to me: the merch. Finally, Trek is a huge money maker for ViacomCBS period.. Discovery has increased merchandise sales from $145 to 182 million in just 3 years. Streaming is the only arm of the company that's expanding.
Excuse me, since 2009.Oh, Kurtzman. Everyone knows he's been secretly trying to destroy Star Trek since 2017, but instead he keeps accidentally making all these successful series that not only get renewed year on year, but also get multiple spin-offs greenlit.
Poor guy can't catch a break.
Christ, you're right. He's spent over a decade trying to unsuccessfully kill it. Can't this guy do anything right?Excuse me, since 2009.
How can they justify the expense when there aren't even numbers for the third season yet? Where can we see how many people are watching?
Precisely this. It's such ridiculous the amount of information that is expected to be disclosed from businesses. CBS making more Star Trek is enough for me.There are numbers. Just because you haven’t seen them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. People who make these decisions have all the data they need.
What about season 5? Should we be worried about that? There have been no announcements.
-STD has been canceled from season 5. It was going to get a fifth season but deals fell through because of merchandising reasons. (No one is buying the $5000 ship props. Not even 500 have been sold.)
-CBS is attempting to save face by publicly announcing season 4. But the truth is, they were contractually obligated to film a fourth season because Emma Watts didn't join Paramount quickly enough to stop her idiot predecessors from signing on the dotted line.
-They want you to think everything is safe and rosy just because the obligatory season 4 is filming. It isn't. There are tensions on the set. Doug Jones is threatening to walk away before shooting starts. His promo video claiming he's excited was just for quick cash because he isn't sure he'll get hired someplace else anytime soon because Discovery has tainted his value as an actor so much.
-Doug Jones isn't the only one trying to get out of the garbage fire. New showrunner Michelle Paradise is already looking for other work. Alex Kurtzman secretly hated her because she told him the only things that made the second season remotely worth watching.
-But she's a feminist, so it's OK that she's leaving.
-Lower Decks season 2 will drop all at once. CBS is going to burn through the episodes and not look back. There will never be a third season. Alex Kurtzman didn't like that some fans called it "real Trek." He heard the same comments about Strange New Worlds. So he's shooting himself in the foot already by mandating that the writers heavily serialize it and "do a Borg show" with it. He thinks the Borg were a TOS enemy. I wish I was kidding.
-Patrick Stewart is going to start sneezing soon every time somebody mentions him going back to work on Star Trek: Picard. My sources tell me it's the only thing his agents are allowing him to do in order to convey the truth -- that he's not coming back and the show is canceled. He isn't allowed to speak openly about his horrible experiences with the first (and only) season until February 29th of next year.
-The cat who plays Grudge on Star Trek: Discovery? She's a big fan of Midnight's Edge. The writers hated her. Every time anybody mentioned Midnight's Edge and other TRUE Star Trek fan YouTube channels, the cat purred. They couldn't get rid of her fast enough. Patrick Stewart visited the set and sneezed when the cat was around because the cat was telling the truth and he wasn't allowed to do so.
-Sonequa Martin-Green killed someone in 2005 and the feds covered it up. Alex Kurtzman is lording this over her because the victim was his uncle. Word is going to get out soon. When it does, Kurtzman will be fired and Martin-Green will be immediately sent to jail without parole.
Hope Season 3 is good enough to get me to watch season 4.
There's a couple of people mad at the season premiere but the only video popping up in my recommendations talking about trek being planned to 2027 is mecharandom, who is angry that there is going to be more trek. I think of all the angry youtube toddlers she is the one that grinds my gears the most.I'm sort of curious what the angry Youtuber crowd are making of this, you know, the same ones who have been predicting Discovery's imminent cancellation any second now, but not curious enough to actually look for myself.
