"Storm Front, Parts 1&2" set out to bow out the Temporal Cold War story arc. Do you feel like these two episodes provided a satisfactory conclusion?

I wish we'd seen more Suliban and had some resolution to Future Guy. Maybe they wanted to leave the door open for more stories?

"Storm Front" was an amazing production, but.... is it me, or did the Enterprise look too small when flying over NYC? I loved this sequence, but felt the scaling was off.

What was up with the building blowing up in the finale? That was really bad CGI. lol

The Na'kuhl were a great concept and had one of the best makeup designs on the whole show.

I need to do some googling, but I recall reading that B&B just didn't feel they were getting the Temporal Cold War right and wanted to shift the main arc of the show towards the Romulan war and birth of the Federation.

Mind you....I read that ages ago. So I might misremember things here.

I never thought this was the end of the TCW arc. I'm sure it'll crop back up, especially since modern Trek loves to lean on existing lore.

The shots of the Enterprise flying over NYC were amazing. It looked so good because IIRC they had the CG city left over from King Kong. The explosion was dreadful because they only explosion effects for space shots, and as also seen in the Vulcan arc, they look dreadful on a planet surface.

As for the size of the ship, NX-01 (and even the classic TV series Enterprise) aren't as big as they seem in space shots, and NYC buildings are enormous. The modern Enterprises in the Kelvin movies and Discovery/Strange New Worlds have been scaled up quite a bit so they'd look way more impressive.

I wish they'd junked those episodes and given us something else instead, preferably a Xindi follow up episode later in the season or some other standalone. I haven't watched it in ages so I might feel different with a rewatch but everything about a dumb Nazi victory and time travel feels trite at this point to me. When I think about the resolution to a temporal war I feel like you could go really out there with the possibilities and play with causality and concepts, which kinda were hinted a little bit in Shockwave and Future Tense but go even more wild, maybe even crib some stuff from primer. I think taking a huge chance and fucking with the audiences heads would have been great and at least got people talking about it more than just the WTF end of Zero Hero. But it could just as easily be crap, so whatever.

I sort of agree with this. I don't actually mind the Space Nazi two-parter, but I wish it had taken place 3/4 of the way through season 3. You could use them in place of Carpenter Street and then you have room for the Xindi follow episode at the end of the season.

But that wasn’t what fans wanted the series to be. So S4 became about the birth of the Federation instead and linking it to the rest of Star Trek canon.

I do wonder though why they just didn’t junk the idea that Archer was Future Guy and have Vosk be revealed as Future Guy instead. I mean, if that’s supposed to be the end of the TCW, at least wrap that loose end up.

I think the idea was to tie off the TCW, but leave the door open for the Suliban, Future Guy, and Daniels had there been a 5th season.

Imho, the federation was always best when vaguely in the background. occasionly referred to, never seen.

Star Trrk has always been at it's best when the title ship has been off on its own, the crew relying on themselves and the one ship to solve X problem.

I mean I wasn't a fan of the temporal cold war to begin with, but as has already been said in this thread. Freaking Nazi aliens is about the most cliched over-done crap there is. Like back in the day every other issue of Captain Britan dealt with an alternate timeline where the Nazis ruled the world.

I thought Storm Front came together fairly well. I wasn't a fan of the big twist at the end of the Season 3 finale, but Season 4's opening wasn't bad. I thought the Na'kuhl were good villains, I thought good use was made of Silik, and I thought Alicia Travers was a good supporting character. Far as I know I thought Storm Front was supposed to be the end of the Temporal Cold War, or rather the end as far as the Enterprise NX-01's crew's involvement.

Wasn't the premise of the series supposed to be about the birth of the Federation though? That's what I was thinking, and I do feel they were dragging it out, and finally got things in gear in the fourth season.

I do like the idea of Vosk as Future Guy. Been a neat way to just tie it up and move on.

I wish they'd gone with a different time period than WWII. That premise has been done to death. On Trek alone, three different series have featured aliens in Nazi uniforms. It's just so trite, the one historical event that gets mentioned on tv over and over again. How about setting the episode during the Russo-Japanese War, or the War of the Roses, or the Crusades? (I know, they'd never do an episode on Earth outside the U.S.A.)

No. The original premise was to be a prequel, Star Trek in the 22nd century. The birth of the Federation would play a role in later seasons, but the original premise of the show was to simply be early space exploration.
