So the actual CBS name for the JJverse/NuTrek is...

I'm sure JJ likes that. It's a bit of an odd name though, the Kelvin was only the first to react to Nero's arrival. He's the one who raised hell for 25 years and rewrote history.

And w deleted scenes you have to believe the Klingons had the Naradda for 25 years and weren't able to gain anything w reverse engineering
Lol.

Well if this is what CBS is calling it, and they're calling it this in-universe in the game, they'll probably call it that in the novels too.

The author for 'Titan: Sight Unseen" was asked by CBS to call the aliens from 'TNG: Schisms' the 'Solenae' because STO did, so I'm going to assume they'll have writers call it the Kelvin Timeline if they ever mention it in the novels.

I mean, I don't think they'd call it the JJ'verse/Abramsverse 'in-universe' lol

Unless someone named JJ Abrams discovers it :P

I think that's just what they call it company intern. I mean they must have a name for it, simply to do internal duscussions/legal/creative choices, nad I doubt they ould call it "Abramsverse" or anything like that. And "Kelvin" seems to be plastered as the centerpiece for the diversion in the movies ("Kelvin-archive" and so on). I would be interested by what name they call our "prime" universe - it will say a lot about how the company sees it.

Eh? Given all the differences between STO and Pocket's novel continuity, it seems very odd James Swallow would be required to be consistent with STO. Hell, Species 8472 has a different "real name" in the two, and the circumstances of Data's resurrection and what he does with his second life are also very different. Are you sure James Swallow didn't just choose to use STO's name?

Regardless, it's all a moot point. The novels aren't allowed to touch anything from the Abrams movies, so we won't be seeing the term "Kelvin Timeline" being used in them.

There's a Kelvin Ridge in The Force Awakens, and you can bet that should Abrams direct another SW movie, there's going to be something there named Kelvin.

Novels are already using the term "Prime Universe" both in the narrative and in dialogue spoken by the characters.

It's as good a name as anything. Especially as the timeline grows and JJ has less to do with it.

The name's growing on me. Although the Kelvin wasn't the cause, it's the initial point of divergence at the time the divergence began, and as said above, it's impact is felt throughout the new movies.

This reminds me of the MCU. In their comic book multiverse, it's Earth-199999. Now in Trek, we have Prime, Mirror and Kelvin timelines.

Holly Amos tweeted saying "Kelvin Timeline" is what the Okuda's came up with to name the Timeline in the new Encyclopedia

Okay, so it probably will catch on. Things in reference works have a way of propagating.

And it's not an unreasonable name, since the destruction of the Kelvin was the divergence point, as people have said.

The "Silent Enemy" aliens have a different name too -- Vertians in my Rise of the Federation novels, Elachi in STO. (Come to think of it, I'm the one who coined Species 8472's novelverse name too.)

But it can be a handy term to use for discussing it online. And licensing deals can change. Maybe at some future point there will be Abramsverse -- err, Kelvin Timeline novels.

Where, for example?

It makes some sense. The Kelvin was the divergence point, and subsequently we've had things named after the ship, like the Kelvin Memorial Archive and the Kelvin Pods, soon to be seen in Beyond.

I liked nuTrek, but, okay, "the Kelvin timeline" is workable, once we get used to it.

"I wonder if they'll ever do a Kelvin version of DS9 . . .?"
"Nah, I want a Kelvinized VOYAGER."

And, of course, someday, when they reboot the continuity again, we'll get to wax nostalgic for "the old Kelvin timeline." :)
