So the actual CBS name for the JJverse/NuTrek is...

I just went through my personal chronology and replaced all the "AR" labels (for "alternate reality," Memory Alpha's uninspired label for the Abramsverse) with "KT" for "Kelvin timeline." It's not a perfect name, but it's better than the alternatives.

The name's growing on me. Although the Kelvin wasn't the cause, it's the initial point of divergence at the time the divergence began, and as said above, it's impact is felt throughout the new movies.
Surely it was the Narada that actually caused the divergence? This bigotry against Romulans must end!

I didn't like "Kelvin Timeline" either but it's growing on me too. Makes sense in-universe, but who would use it? Everyone thinks their timeline is the prime one.

I liked nuTrek, but, okay, "the Kelvin timeline" is workable, once we get used to it.

"I wonder if they'll ever do a Kelvin version of DS9 . . .?"
"Nah, I want a Kelvinized VOYAGER."

And, of course, someday, when they reboot the continuity again, we'll get to wax nostalgic for "the old Kelvin timeline." :)
And soon people will be naming their kids Kelvin.

I mean, I don't think they'd call it the JJ'verse/Abramsverse 'in-universe' lol

I'm guessing in-universe, they don't call their timeline *anything*, much like we don't call our own RL "timeline" anything. To the characters living in it, it's just "reality"...

Temporal agencies in the Prime universe (e.g. the DTI or Daniels's agency) might use that terminology in their records.

Makes sense for in and out of universe perspective. I like the simplicity of Memory Alpha's Alternate Reality name though.

I like "Kelvin Timeline". The problem with "Alternate Reality" is that we've had so many that it's hard to keep track of them all, although most of them have been contained within a single episode and resolve themselves out of existence.

But there are some stable alternate realities, like the Mirror Universe and the hundreds of thousands of alternates in TNG: "Parallels." And implicitly the Thelin timeline in "Yesteryear." Even though that one was supposedly created by a time-travel accident, when Spock leaves, he tells Thelin to live long and prosper in his world, implying that he expects that world to continue even after he restores/returns to his own.

So I'm with you -- "Alternate Reality" is way, way too generic. Especially since it's inevitable that we'll get other alternate Trek realities in the decades ahead, and possibly as early as 2017, given all the talk about how the All Access show is doing new things and putting its own spin on things. After all, now that the precedent has been set, there's no reason to think it would never happen again -- and as the original franchise gets more and more dated, it's going to seem more and more like a good idea. Giving the Kelvin Timeline a specific, distinguishing name shows foresight, and sets a precedent for a future with more alternate realities to choose among.

Funny you should mention that, STO has the 'Temporal Cold War' continuing on in their next update, and it is Daniels who involves the player character in the Kelvin Timeline. It's mentioned that his agency has adopted the term Kelvin Timeline to distinguish between the two different quantum realities.

AFAIK, in the novelverse, nobody in the prime timeline (not even the DTI or any of its successor agencies, Daniels included) knows about the Kelvin timeline. For all they know, Spock Prime and Nero simply disappeared into oblivion.

Q knows, according to the Star Trek Ongoing comic. I can't remember if he told Picard about it or not.

They'll find out as soon as Pocket are allowed to tell stories about the Kelvin Timeline. If STO can, hopefully the day is coming...

Thing is, there's always been some collaboration between STO and Bad Robot going back to 2009. The Countdown comics use the Starfleet uniforms from STO and that status of the TNG characters in 2387 is consistent with STO.
I think I saw that episode in DS9.
Playing God, from season 2.

That's more a case of collaboration between STO and IDW, I'd say. On the first point, the Countdown artist was able to coordinate with the STO people and use their designs. On the second point, STO's developers took story elements from a variety of sources, including Countdown and some of the novels (while contradicting other novels).
