Star Trek Beyond USS Franklin

turtleman747

Hello everyone so i have been working on a 3d model of the USS Franklin based on the concept art.
I think I have gotten pretty close tho still not sure as to a secondary hull perhaps their might be a few ideas form others.
Possible scale based on possible set piece used for filming
Along side the TOS Enterprise

USS Franklin
Length 133 meters
Width 69 meters

Spotted your thread over on Scifi Meshes and have been meaning to comment, love what you have done so far, are you planning on coming up with your own lower half of the hull or going to wait and revise the model when more is known about the ship?

not entirely sure at the moment. There isn't much room under neath the primary hull to have a proportionally good looking engineering hull with a round defector, given the compact and small size of the ship.

I would love to see what others might have in mind looking at both TOS and TMP loknar class still doesn't seem to work with the ships over all design. So I a bit stumped.
May have to wait it out. but open to ideas.

Very cool! I've been wanting to start one of these myself, but I've just been too busy. :)

as far as the secondary hull goes, maybe there isn't one. Those nacelle pylons could just connect to some kind of protrusion on the bottom of the saucer? That's what I would do, if I was building it out now.

Nice looking design. I would love to see where this goes. I hope that we will find out more information prior to the movie.

Nice model! I haven't been keeping up with STB. What concept art?

Here's the original thread on the subject. Quite an interesting design, if a tad bit derivative. It totally changes the "bigger is better" paradigm that AbramsVerse films have engaged in since departing from the Prime Universe. Looking forward to how this one fleshes out.

Excellent work mate! Especially with what you have had to work with. Truly amazing skills bro.

True but given that with the film style there is more a "logical" reason to how form and function work together in the design.
The nacelle pylons, given that I'm trying to keep close to the concept image. Are straight no curve or organic bend to them like the enterprise. Also end up tapering towards the rear of the primary hull and seem to want to attach to the outer portion with a bit of over hang on the bottom.

As far as a secondary hull I don't think that this ship will have one given that the ship would probable be discover by the crew burred under dirt and debris as it had crashed landed on the planet. An engineering section would not survive the crash and skid to its resting place.

Going to come up with some thing and see how it looks. But will revise the model to what ever new details about the ship surface

So the scale was a quick estimate.

The true scale could be between the 133 meters Length, or if we want to scale the outer part of the saucer to match the high of the NX-01 being one deck. This would put the length of my model around 225m which oddly enough matches the length of the NX-01 and would be around 117m, but also puts the main view screen/window at 3.6m in height compared to some thing like 2.2m on the smaller scale. Will also have the lower section done and rear later on today.

Nice. I did an attempt at the Franklin a while back too, ended up 3D printing my mesh.

nice do you mind if I go with your lower hull design? Is that also impulse engines on the bottom of each nacelle, or just excess detail?

You mean under the Pylons? Sure. I kinda based it off that wireframe side view behind Scotty in the Beyond trailer and sorta mirrored the top.

@Dac Thanks
Sorta keeping with the side view behind Scotty in the trailer

Lower and rear hull design details with freedom
notes hanger is width 7m height 5m or if one wanted the NX-01 scale of 225m, the hanger end up being width 11m
height 9m

Any one know the dimensions of the kelvin type shuttle?

I'd hate to be piloting a shuttle into the bay if this thing needs to make a fast getaway all of a sudden. You'd get cooked in a jiffy! :D

But yeah, I like where this is going. You've done quite an excellent job on this, turtleman, with what little source material you have to work with. Well done. :bolian:
