Zachary Quinto embracing Star Trek/Trek fans

Quinto has repeatedly appeared at conventions. He recorded the audio book for the novelization of the Star Trek movie, and now he's involved as the EMH for the new Star Trek online game.

Just from a cursory glance at his involvement with Star Trek outside his role as Spock, it seems as though Quinto's really making an effort to embrace Trek and Trek fans. What are your thoughts on Quinto's involvement with Trek fandom so far?

That's good but I want to see Chris Pine, Karl Urban embrace Star Trek fans and attend conventions and things Trek related.

I think it's very good, that he's bothering to do these things. He could very well be the type that finishes the movie and then that's it... until the sequel. Which is all well and good, if an actor wants to go that route. But if you want to gain the loyalty of the fans following the fandom, Quinto is definitely doing the right thing. Whether he's looking for fan loyalty, or he's just enjoying the fandom, I don't know for certain, but on the surface it does appear that he enjoys his fans in and fandoms of both ST and Heroes.

I wonder if ZQ was the only one offered the job of doing the audio book, or if other members of the cast were considered as well. MMmmm, I could go for hearing Zoe read it :)

I had something a little more substantial than "embracing" in mind. ;) But I'll let the fangirl hordes take it from here.

Actually, i think this is the way Zachary just IS. It seems to me he really enjoys his fans, both Trek fans and Heroes fans. He puts himself out there all the time, in person, at conventions, even on Facebook. He seems to appreciate his fans and acknowledge their interest in him. If you ask me, I think he's swell! :)

Different actors have various other projects and career paths they want to take.

Zachary Quinto was involved with Heroes, and had become aquainted with the Sci-Fi fan communities before he was involved with Star Trek.

Sometimes a little distance is necessary, since they need to keep their sanity.

I guess everyone is different.

I already regard him as heroic for putting up with the gawdawful writing on Heroes and not just phoning it in, which is all the scripts deserve lately. He's building up some good karma there.

Spock is my favorite fictional character of all time. I was terrified when I heard they were recasting the character. To think they would botch Spock was just enough to make me vomit. Instead, they succeeded so well that I actually think of Quinto as Spock now rather than Nimoy. This has got to be the most brilliant casting in show biz history. Isn't there an Oscar for casting or something? Whoever did the casting for Trek XI certainly deserves it. It's probably one of those Oscars they give away when nobody's looking but I'll still root for whoever it was.

The Emmys have a casting Oscar, but not the Oscars (it's been proposed for the Oscars more than once, but has yet to be adopted.) Star Trek did earn an Artios Award form the Casting Society of America earlier this month, though -- thread here.

I love me some ZQ. It's endearing when stars deign to geek out a bit with their fans. It makes him not seem like he thinks he's so above all the rabid sci-fi/fantasy nerds.

Also, Temis made this thread dirty before I could get here, but please allow me to second her idea. We can start with an embrace first, if you insist, Zachary...

I like ZQ as well though I was pretty horrified the first time I saw him in all his Spock-y glory. Oh my, he looked absolutely terrible with that shimmery green overly airbrushed skin and wooden photo shoot. *shudders* But, I'm glad I stuck it out as they eventually tweaked him, giving him a more natural look and less severe brows. Now he's just mmmm... yum.

OMG, you aren't kidding with that terrible writing. I mean, what the hell is going on?? It's time for that show to go! *stabs it* What did you do to Sylar! :scream:

They really do need to add this category. There have been many movies that should have been recognized for great ensemble casts....and certainly Star Trek is one of them.

Yeah that magazine cover freaked me out. Why did they do that? How did they do that? Don't do that again. :rommie:

The dreaded Plastic Spock shoot.

I am very pleased to see him do these things, and embrace what he had to know would be coming if the film were a success.

Every one of the actors in this film knew what a successful movie would mean to this fandom...which, let's fact it, is one of the most long-running, lucrative (for the actors) and vocal fandoms around. They had to know that if the movie were successful, people like us would be a never-ending gold mine for them.

I'm glad to see Quinto getting into the swing of things and Giving The People What They Want. Well done!
