Damn, that's really disappointing. Just a mini-episode instead of a full episode (let alone all of the missing episodes in the serial) feels superfluous and kind of pointless.

Nope, there's an additional note at the end of the article that specifically rules that out. It's a stand alone 10 minute animation that might be included as a special but it's not part of a project to fully animate Wheel.

OK. Which blu-ray release? Series 11? Series 4 with a steelbook case? Series 10 of OldWho, as been reported elsewhere? Where and when?

The article explains that. The special is the BFI's Missing, Believed Wiped 25th anniversary event on December 15th. Doctor Who is just one of the BBC shows with lost episodes that have been recovered, and the event features recovered episodes from several of them:
Every professional production or business deal is secret in the early stages, because the contracts haven't been signed yet and some things are still in flux, so nothing gets announced until the details are finalized. As much as Doctor Who reconstructions are exercises in historical preservation, they're also part of the TV production business and thus are subject to the same kind of advance secrecy that's normal for every project.
They can't say which DVD or Blu-ray it'll be on because then they'd have to announce forthcoming DVDs or Blu-ray releases.
There's still the matter of The Macra Terror, which is also heavily rumoured to have been animated. Basically we don't really know what's going on and we'll have to wait and see what's announced. Yes it's frustrating, but it's always been like this.

So the 10 minute animated minisode is The Wheel in Space part 1, but The Macra Terror part 2 (now known to be heading to DVD) is also listed for the upcoming BFI event, with no mention of whether it's animated or live-action. Have I got this straight?
Did anybody go to the BFI event? Any news/hints on anything? With no new DW to look forward to for a year, now would be a great time to start surprising people (looking at you, Morris)...
Yeah, at this point, I'm just tired of the waiting. When will come a time where we can watch the Hartnell and Troughton seasons in sequence, and enjoy them fully?
I'm not ruling out future finds of missing episodes. However, if episode finds occur, it'll be at the dribble rate we've been experiencing over the past decades. Maybe even slower given the amount of time that has passed. And, the probability of finding all, or even a good portion, of the remaining missing episodes is extremely low. Morris does not have a stockpile of found episodes that he's just waiting to release to the public. Let's be realistic about that.

And does it have a VCR? Let’s say....200 hundred years just to be safe. We could develop FTL drive and do it that way. Might take less time.
Hmm. Well, assuming the animations are for episodes confirmed never to be returning, we currently stand at:
Season 1: Marco Polo (7 episodes) needed to complete. I could see this being the first Hartnell Blu-Ray to release.
Season 2: The Crusade (2 episodes) needed to complete. Put the same team on this and Marco and you can have the first two Hartnell seasons on Blu-Ray in short order.
Season 3: .... save this for last if you're animating, you're gonna have to pretty much redo the whole season except for The Ark, The Gunfighters and The War Machines. A whopping 31 episodes needed here.
Season 4: The Smugglers (4 episodes). If you want, you could sneak that and The Tenth Planet onto Season 3 instead just to finish the Hartnell set. Otherwise... The Highlanders (4 episodes), The Underwater Menace (2 episodes), The Faceless Ones (4 episodes) and The Evil of the Daleks (6 episodes) needed to complete the season.
Season 5: The Abominable Snowmen (5 episodes), The Web of Fear (1 episode), Fury From the Deep (6 episodes), The Wheel in Space (4 episodes) needed to complete.
Season 6: The Space Pirates (5 episodes) needed to complete. Animation might actually be an improvement on recovery here. Easiest of the Troughton seasons to put on Blu-Ray.
82 episodes left to either be recovered or animated. At the current rate of 3-4 Blu-Rays a year, we MIGHT have them all by 2023. Definitely by 2028 at latest.
You do know that Voyager 2 would have to travel FTL to catch up with the TV broadcasts? At that point, the energy from the transmissions would be so weak that it couldn't detect them anyway. You're talking about 50 light years depending on the story!
