Why "Star Trek" is not right...

Which is why it was sort of annoying to never see his supposed studious side -- yeah, they told us he had it, at least when Pike referred to him as a "genius-level" intellect, but I had a hard time buying it when all we saw were his jerkass tendencies. Informed attribute, anyone?
If you think that people with genius IQ can't have jerkass tendencies, you haven't met enough of them.

I know a few... at least one also lacks common sense.
 
I think we saw Kirk's serious and studious side when he put it all together that they were flying into a trap at Vulcan. In particular, Kirk made the presentation of evidence to Pike using nothing but a serious, thoughtful, and sincerely concerned tone. That shows that side of Kirk to us.
