Why is Discovery such a stupid show?

Because it's superficial and therefore non-engaging. One example to illustrate. Remember in the first (or second?) season they would have a gratuitously violent torture or other scene every single episode for no apparent reason? The reason was it's a cheap, superficial way to try to engage the viewer when you don't have any good ideas. It doesn't work - it's just stupid.

The effects, CGI, ship sets, etc. are of course spectacular (usually) but that's literally superficial. The characters make instant decisions, have fake and abrupt dialog that's often cringeworthy it's so dumb and nonsensical. They're all shallow and boring (apart from Tilley of course.)

Similar to the previous example however, they try to inject every character with some huge personal crisis they're going through at all times. All of them. Every single episode. Again, it's a quick & dirty way of adding depth which doesn't work. It's tedious and boring hearing the exact same stupid struggles every week - nobody cares, eventually!

I happen to be watching Voyager at the same time which, visually, is original-series ridiculous by comparison but it engages you with interesting stories and you get into the episode. (Other than the many bad ones, of course.) Discovery is shallow, flashy and trashy. Like we're talking soap opera bad - they're all bad actors, too. Burnham and Tilley being the exceptions - with the former being best at portraying constant worry and sadness of course.

The show is only mildly engaging for the high action content, occasionally. Otherwise I couldn't care less if this were cancelled soon. One season I just forgot about all the DVR'd episodes. Literally forgot to watch it it's so stupid. Who cares what I think, of course - except I've just proven above that it's bad. Really bad. TFR.

You haven't proven anything. You just gave your opinion.

Good and bad is subjective.

There was some reasonable if not stale and repetitive analysis of the show in the body of your post that was completely sabotaged by the attention-seeking, button-pushing, made-in-bad-faith title of your thread and the contention that you had proven your subjective opinion correct at the end.

Unfortunately that's going to draw some ire from the regulars, which I suspect was your intention, so this thread is now closed. Reconsider the manner in which you present your opinions and whether they are worthy of their own thread to express a criticism heard a thousand times before.
