I'd like to vote for Nog but I'm not exactly sure what he does in Starfleet.

I think Nog was chief of operations on the Defiant.
I'm pretty sure he was a navigator, not a helmsman.

He is winning. What was so great about him? I never found him to be all that great of a character. He was some kind of reformed convict from what I remember.

Well he did man the conn station several times throughout the show, but so did Dax.
I considered adding her but didn't want to dilute the TNG pool too much. So, I just narrowed it down to two with more longevity than Ro Laren.
Huh for the longest time I thought "We can't be arsed to look up an actual Japanese surname" was the Navigator and Chekov was the Helmsman...

Geordi was only temporary, until he was promoted. Data held that position way longer.
^ Data was never regular helmsman he was chief of OPS (he's gold, not red, helmsmen in TNG+ wore red, like Geordi did in Season 1)
After Geordi left, Wesley became regular helmsman, then a string of background extras, then Ro, then the background extras again.
