What did you read in 2024?

I always enjoy these threads. I'll just post my Star Trek reads, since I read too much other stuff, but I can say I read a total of 125 books in 2024. Of those 125, eleven were Star Trek:
  1. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Long Mirage by David R. George III
  2. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: I, the Constable by Paula M. Block & Terry J. Erdmann
  3. Star Trek: Prey, Book 1: Hell’s Heart by John Jackson Miller
  4. Star Trek: Prey, Book 2: The Jackal’s Trick by John Jackson Miller
  5. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Gamma: Original Sin by David R. George III
  6. Star Trek: Prey, Book 3: The Hall of Heroes by John Jackson Miller
  7. Star Trek: The Next Generation: Headlong Flight by Dayton Ward
  8. Star Trek: Titan: Fortune of War by David Mack
  9. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum by Una McCormack
  10. Star Trek: Section 31: Control by David Mack
  11. Star Trek: The Next Generation: Hearts and Minds by Dayton Ward
As you can see, I mostly just worked my way through my Destiny-era novels, except for one SNW book.

Here are my favorite books I read or reread last year:

1. Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel
2. Yellowface
3. The Importance of Being Earnest
4. Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics
5. William Shakespeare's Horror Collection (Ian Doescher)
6. Star Wars: Brotherhood
7. Star Trek: The Autobiography of Kathryn Janeway
8. A Death in Tokyo
9. The Bible Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained
10. Marvel Year by Year: A Visual History
11. Why We Love Middle-Earth
12. Star Trek: Articles of the Federation
13. Star Trek 365: The Next Generation
14. Star Trek: Full Circle
15. Murder by Invitation Only
16. Exploring J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit
17. Star Trek: The Eternal Tide
18. The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia
19. Star Trek: Watching the Clock
20. The End of Eternity
21. A Trace of Poison
22. Why We Love Baseball: A History in 50 Moments
23. Murder Takes the Stage
24. Garth Brooks: The Anthology Part IV: Going Home

How about that? There are 24 books on my list for 2024.

There were some other 4-star Trek rereads in 2024, but I think the above paints a pretty accurate picture of what I enjoy.

I re-read an awful lot. More re-reads than new reads. Didn't keep any records.

Probably the most harrowing re-read was Jeff Sharlet's The Family. Compared to that, reading Dracula (for the first time) was almost like watching Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Because at least with Dracula, it's just a make-believe horror.

I started getting into Trek novels at the very end of last year (not counting the hilariously bad early TOS novels I've happened to pick up in the past) -- I read Constellations and The Captain's Oath in December, and I have a few more litverse books from both TOS and DS9 on the way.

I see a telltale clue there that someone is using my Simple Post Nemesis reading order list, if I’m not mistaken.

Cool. @Jinn is a master at timelining as well. And the inventor of the word “chrono-clue” in our community! :D

I just wondered about inserting Original Sin between the final two Prey books and realized that’s how I had things as well, intercutting the DS9 andTNG storylines.

I started reading the TOS Pocket Books around January (starting with "The Entropy Effect") and then in publishing order until "Double, Double" in December. Those are 46 books (I skipped the film novelizations), which is a total outlier, since an average year I just read... one or two books.

Oh, yes, that was exactly where I got that from.

Star Trek specific:

The Higher Frontier, Christopher L Bennett
Lost to Eternity, Greg Cox
Pliable Truths, Dayton Ward
Burning Dreams, Margaret Bonanno
Savage Trade, Tony Daniel
Fan Fiction, Brent Spiner. Well, Star Trek adjacent.

I also started Firewall but grad school projects happened. That will be probably be my first ST read for 2025.

A fuckton of Stephen King. Misery, Dolores Claiborne, Gerald's Game (yikes), The Stand, Cujo, The Shining, The Outsider, Under The Dome... a lot of Stephen King.
And also Homestuck. It's a webcomic so idk if it counts, but it's 8 000 pages long. lol

Minor correction, @JD: Tommy Patterson did the art on The Beginning of the End of the Beginning, while Will Sliney did the art on Strange Detractors, not the other way 'round......
