Spoilers What causes Sam Kirk to leave Starfleet?

I'm figuring whatever happens in Part II of Hegemony will cause Sam to reassess his service on a starship and choose to be closer to his family. Which, as we know, is good while it lasts.

That, and probably him feeling that he can't measure up to his dad because Jim's career is taking off so well, Sam likely feels, "Why am I still doing this?"

Also, he might not want Peter to feel the same resentment for him for being away on assignment all the time like George Kirk was away. Jim saw their father following a calling, while Sam saw it as abandonment.

He left Starfleet to manage a Klingon K-Pop band called the bat'leth boys.

After their first and only hit number 1 single in 2362 "your love brings me glory" him and the band failed to gain anymore hit singles. In 2363 the lead singer Gorken the butcher of Archanis died of a bloodwhine and Maraji crystal overdose after their first concert on Quo'nos which ended in a embarrassing failure after zero concent goers died bringing dishonor to Gorkens house.

As such sam Kirk had to get a secondary job as a biologist on Deneva

He was stationed on Deneva so he was still in Starfleet. I suppose he decided to take a job planetside to provide a better life for his wife and sons. His father dragged his wife and kids from post to post and wasn’t around much. Sam was being a good husband and dad.

He's a scientist. He gets married and realizes that Starfleet was just a.thing to please Dad. Which ain't gonna happen.

I hope we meet George Kirk. I hope he's a tyrannical old asshole.

Too much boomer vs millennial thing going on with that model IMO, but it would sell! :D

Besides, if we were to base his behavior on his brief showing in the ST Kelvin time, he didn't seem anything unusual. Of course age/time/timeline/events changes a person, so yeah, they could easily go that route.

What I'd like to see.....
Sam has to resign from Star Fleet to cover up a problem Jim got into or did. Basically sacrificed himself for his little brother. Gives Jim Kirk some hidden baggage to deal with in future episodes/shows. Also adds to Jim's evolution from being a 1st officer to Captain.

If they do choose to do a Farragut spinoff, it allows them to create easy content around Jim's relationship with Sam and how it evolves with him getting married, having a son, etc etc. Potentially throw in some Carol Marcus in there, and Jim's son.

Maybe a little soap-opera-ey, but if done right, can be interesting. Lots to work with here!

I seriously wish they would somehow get William Shatner to do an SNW cameo as "George Kirk". (Never happen, I know.)

Tyrannical asshole dads go back a lot farther than that.

I am pretty darn sure that not meeting parental expectations goes way further back than this most recent iteration of generational conflict.

Oh that I'm aware! But this iteration is the one front at center today, and seems stronger IMO :D. I'd prefer a less stereotypical model.

Regardless...my opinion about their father is irrelevant. I did have an "on topic" view about Sam there.

You forgot about the copyright case against them for parts of their follow up single, "She Loves You, But You Are Without Honor".

If we see the Kirk's dad my vote is for the Shat Man. It would make so much sense IMO.

I seem to remember reading Best Destiny by Vonca McIntyre back in the day and wasn't George Kirk the Enterprise's first captain there? Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly... anyone remember that novel?

Best Destiny was Diane Carey. George Kirk was a diplomatic security officer. April was the captain of the Enterprise.
