Spoilers What causes Sam Kirk to leave Starfleet?

So In the recent episode we see Sam and Jim have a difference of opinion of what a successful career in starfleet should look like thanks to their old man. So I was wondering what do you think causes Kirk to leave starfleet and move to Deneva? Do you think we’ll see that happen in SNW at some point?

The double whammy of Kirk becoming captain of the flagship Enterprise and Spock becoming first officer. Transferring to a “lesser” ship would be a downgrade, so Sam goes NOPE and gets outta there at top speed!

He doesn't have to be in uniform all the time. He was stationed at deneva it wasn't permanent
He most certainly could still have been in starfleet.
