Wanted: Fanfic so terrible it is hilarious!

Well, this is the first post I have ever made in this forum, after almost 7 years on this board. Just goes to show - anything can happen. :)

Anyway, the reason I come to this group is simple. The other day I was thinking about that site Godawful Fan Fiction...and how I used to laugh my arse off reading some of that stuff. I hadn't been there in a few years, but I googled it and discovered it was still there.

So I know that Godawful Fan Fiction still exists, but it seems fairly limited - to Trek, X-Files, and a bunch of stuff I'm not interested in.

What I am looking for are some good laughs over more recent non-Trek shows...and and even some of the older more popular shows.

So first I'd like to ask: what are the largest scifi-related depositories for fanfic on the web? But then I'd also like to ask if there are other sites along the lines of Godawful Fan Fiction that feature other shows besides the ones there.

I haven't read any fan fiction in years...so I have no idea where to even start.

Thanks for any assistance.

My Immortal by Tara Gilesbie

worst of all time

Well now, are you looking for merely tasteless?
. . . slightly disturbed?
. . . terribly tacky?
. . . appallingly awful?
. . . or so gut-wrenchingly terrible that it induces projectile vomiting?

Sorry! I was having flashbacks to Dan Akroyd's character, Leonard Pinth-Garnell, host of SNL's "Bad Theater."

Actually, one of the best/worst ST stories that was godawful yet hilarious was actually published - How Much for Just the Planet? Can't recall the author.

Of course, there's always Vogon poetry . . .

Thanks everyone, for the links and for the specific suggestions. Much appreciated!

I will go look around on the sites mentioned. However, I just looked up that Tara Gilesbie person on Google - seems she's so terrible that she has a fan club devoted to her terribleness. And an online petition or two aimed at trying to get her to stop writing.

Anyway, I read the first three 'chapters' of her goth Harry Potter tale...and wow, it is terrible alright. Whew! She slit her wrist in chapter 3, but she beat me to it by only a narrow margin.

I also took a look through the TV Shows index at Fanfic.net. Interesting that Voyager has more fanfic written about it than all the rest of the Trek shows combined! Wonder why that is?

Seems Buffy is a pretty popular fanfic universe - interesting.

Anyway, thanks very much for the info! If you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. In the meantime I'll go root around at the places you guys mentioned.

Slash fic, undoubtedly. C/7, C/J, J/TP, C/T, and whatever other ungodly combinations anyone could think of.

^ Ah yes! That would make sense. That was a pretty big show for shippers of all varieties.

Could that be why there is so much Buffy fic on that site too? I guess Buffy was a pretty big show for shippers.

Anyway, now on Chapter 5 of My Immortal. I probably shouldn't read this at work, because it's no doubt making my co-workers wonder what the hell I think is so funny.

EDIT: Aaaauuuugggghhh!!! Chapter 6: Goth Harry Potter. This is frakkin' hilarious! Best line ever: "He was so sexy that my body went all hot when I saw him kind of like an erection only I’m a girl so I didn’t get one you sicko."

:guffaw:

Why not have a gander at my own Work-in-progress (and quite incomplete,) stories at "Star Trek: New Worlds" (see link at the bottom of my post.) Look under author-name "Jason K.S. Hauck". The rest aren't mine.
  • "Star Trek: Mandela"
  • "Star Trek: Exeter"
  • "Star Trek: Vonnegut"
  • "Star Trek: Avalon"
The rest are stored in the "Files" areas (see left side of page for "Photos" or "Files") of my websites' "file manager" & "general support" groups.

you could try my "Sniper: Pulp Fiction" story written for the Cliche challenge a couple of months back. it really rips into fan-fiction...

(link in sig to my site, story is under 'sniper' (funnily enough))

One that I can't seem to find anymore is SevWideWeb. It seems to have vanished. It was a comic strip site, but they had Sev Trek, Sev Wars, Sev Files, so on and so forth. It was pretty funny.

So, what's the verdict? Who's the worst of the worst? Will I need to set up a separate page at "Star Trek: New Worlds" for "Best Of" / "Worst Of" Internet Trek Fic Critic's Award(s)?

You've probably sated your cravings and blinded yourself at this point already, but I just thought I'd mention that the Godawful Fan Fiction message boards link to badfic in many fandoms that aren't linked on the front page. You have to register to view the boards, and unfortunately nowadays due to whatever weird evolution it is that goes on on the web, there's a huge amount of unfunny there at the moment, but you'll still find truly inspired bad fanfiction. Especially in the Golden Oldies section.

There's also Deleterius over on LJ, though that's mainly Harry Potter and LotR badfic.

Happy hunting.

PKTrekGirl, search for MST3K fan fiction. MST3K made fun of the worst movies ever made, so MST3K fan fiction (MiSTings) make fun of the worst fan fiction, spam, insane rants, scripts, etc. on the internet. The masterworks of the MiSTing community were Stephen Ratliff's Marrissa saga, a series of Trek fanfics that revolve around Picard adopting that girl he once got trapped in a turbolift with and giving her command of the Enterprise for no apparent reason. And that's the relatively grounded start of the tale. It gets much, much crazier.

Of course, there have been really bad MiSTings, too.
Some one would do an incredibly awful job of MiSTing an awful fanfic, producing something even worse than what they were MiSTing. The great fun of these came when someone would do a "Meta-MiSTing" of the lousy MiSTing. They weren't always easy to read, but they were screamingly funny. Unfortuantely, the best archive of MiSTings on the net died, and took most of these gems with it.

My vote for the all-time worst fanfic goes to Daniel Hernandez's "Slipping Into Death's Embrace" (an X-Files crossover story).

The misted version of this unfortunately vanished from the internet years ago. I had feared the story was lost to posterity forever. However, I recently discovered a copy on an old floppy disc.

Sweet Zombie Christ! That looks bad. Part of me wants to look and part of me wants to look away.
