Uniforms in the new series

It probably won't be for another while until we get to see the production design for the new Star Trek series, but how do you guys want the new uniforms to look? Casual and comfortable like the Enterprise uniforms, bright and colourful like the The Original Series and The Next Generation uniforms, or formal and classy like the original film uniforms?

I saw these posted on Reddit earlier today, and apparently, they were designed by @Longinus, a fellow BBS'er. Absolutely love the look of them, and if this show really is set between Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and The Next Generation as has been speculated and possibly hinted by Nicholas Meyer, these would be perfect.

A few changes here and there, with the pants leg opening for example, and I would pick these.

Definitely want them to lose the one piece "adult onesie" look completely. Something far less stylized, more the look of TOS, shoes/boots - trouser/skirts - shirt (maybe something that that opens and closes down the front). Dresses should be a part of the mix, above the knee, no miniskirts.

No mostly black costumes.

Some kind of emblem on the shirt, not too big. And easily understood rank insignia, including insignia for the enlisted personnel.

Like the general look of the image below, less the "bio-sensor."

Not an overload of black, grey, brown, etc. Some strong colours would be nice. Please no ugly pastel colours like in Star Trek TMP. There could be different uniforms though for planetary mission, which require some stealth. Then darker tones would be fine to make it more realistic. But if they are just on their ship or on diplomatic missions, I prefer a more colourful and friendly look.

And the uniforms should have rank insignias. Not a repetition of the Uhura disaster in the new movies.

And no one piece jumpsuits. Especially nothing like the catsuit of 7 of 9. Two pieces are much more practical. Although I am sure that they will only hire good looking slim actors as Starfleet officers, the uniforms shouldn't look completely horrible on people with a less than optimal figure. That is another reason for having two pieces uniforms.

Also no miniskirts, because of practicability reasons. You can't even freely position your legs whatever way you like when you sit, if you don't want to show everyone your underwear. As Starfleet is the future military, I expect a bit more utility for daily uniforms.

Overall the daily uniforms shouldn't look too militaristic though, like with camo colours, tons of pockets, weapon holsters, etc. But if there is a planetary mission, which require some military action, they could have of course uniforms for these purposes then, especially for the security forces. There doesn't have to be only one type of uniform in my opinion. Different uniforms for different purposes would be fine with me.

Or have the everyday uniform for the security personnel be "militaristic." Think a variation of the US military's BDU's, have them stand out as they move about the ship.

And when non-security beam into combat likely situations we can have them change into similar uniforms.

I'd like to see a bit more colour. As much as I like the First Contact uniforms the trend towards more and more black and grey in recent incarnations took some of the life out of Starfleet. Fine for fighting the Borg and Dominion but let's lighten things up again for the new show. Maybe even branch out from the three divisions, although perhaps not quite as far as the TOS Movie's Dulux paint chart of specialities. Adding a separate medical and security colour would be fine. And a rank insignia structure that takes enlisted personnel into account.

One big thing I'd like is to continue JJTreks tendency to have a range of uniform options for different scenarios as this is far more practical and realistic than the one-tunic-many-uses approach of most Star Trek. Pyjamas are fine for the climate controlled bridge but do you really want to beam down without so much as a coat? The presence of Meyer, the only other Trek director to go for this in a big way, fills me with some confidence on this score.

No catsuits either. For the sake of all that is holy, no catsuits.

I like th idea of options. ENT had one uniform and a desert option plus some hats and jackets. Few of them were very flattering on non-slim body types though, so I'd like to see cuts that can accommodate people who aren't Ken or Barbie physiques (not fat or unfit, but not uniformly tall/skinny).

I think the TNG series uniforms had the best blend of options for people of different sizes, allowing for the color panels to act as slimming for those who weren't (*cough* Frakes' later years *cough*). DS9/VOY and the later movies had way too much black, which covered physique differences at the cost of practicality. VOY did the best job at showing options IMO, but most of them were one-shot deals that were never seen again... Climbing gear, training gear, cold weather, racing uniforms (?!), etc.

So I agree with most here - less black, but with a flattering cut. No JJ printed fabrics. Camo and away team options as necessary. Department colors plainly visible and not just piping or highlights. A new rank schema that makes sense. And so on. :)

I want the uniforms to be like in the vain of TOS and JJ Abrams films; bright and colorful. I'm tired of the darker uniforms. Tired of grays, and bland colors, what made Nick Meyers uniforms interesting in the old days were it was different, something which were never seen before.

The designers shouldn't Frankenstein a design; which are mixing what were established from past movies like what's presented on the 1st post, but something fresh and taking Trek to the next level. I hated those uniforms from Enterprise completely forgetting the spirit of Star Trek, and was an extension to the dark vibes from the crappy TNG films and DS9 5th thru 7th seasons.

I think the optimal choice would be to have practical uniforms of ENT for male officers and skin-tight catsuits for the female officers.

When it comes to the fit of the clothing, I really like the trim cut of the uniforms on the USS Kelvin at the beginning of ST09. It visually highlights the level of physical fitness that members of a space navy should be required to maintain, and it has quite a "retro future" vibe.

I think the standard (starship/starbase) duty uniforms should be essentially solid-color fatigues, but in Starfleet colorings. I could see an optional skirted variant with knee-length TOS-style boots.

No onesies please. I want separate tops and bottoms, I also want a skirt option that is worn by both men and women, Star Trek shouldn't feature gendered uniforms, it doesn't seem right esoecially considering they're an interplanetary organization.
Skirts being only worn by women isn't even a thing on earth, not in the past, not today and I'm pretty sure not in the future either.

I also hope they get rid of the division colors or if they use them at least have them make sense! Why does every scientist wear blue? Medical doctors, physicists, cartographers etc. all have completely different jobs with completely different qualifications. The same goes for engineering and security both wearing gold (or red depending on the era).
If a division color doesn't tell you what that person does, what's the point? The colors only tell you what a person doesn't do, the guy in blue is not a security officer and the woman in yellow not a historian but that's not particularly helpful because you still have no clue what their actual job is.
