Tuvok wasn't the first Black Vulcan

There actually was a black female Vulcan in STV and a black Romulan in TNG.
AFAIK we've never seen a Vulcan or Romulan who was any other race besides black or white though. Are there Asian Vulcans, Native Vulcans, etc?

The thing I always found somewhat amusing, is that if Vulcan is so hot and desert-like and seems to have a bright, big-ass star keeping it that way, to the point that they actually evolved with a second eyelid to compensate, why aren't ALL Vulcans dark-complexioned?

Perhaps the show's makeup budget precluded making all Vulcans look alike. :p

Or varying shades... after all, Egyptians, Arabians, Iraqis, Mongolians, Tibetans, South American Natives, etc... aren't all the same exact shade.

For that matter, there are some natives from the Arctic regions with darker skin than people who live on the equator.

Yeah, they probably didn't have too clear a vision of what Vulcan was like in the early days of the show anyway. This is evidenced by the overuse of the hard-on-the-ears "Vulcanian" nomenclature that was thrown around during Season 1. Nimoy had a light complexion and it set the bar from there.

Well, sure - when I said "dark-complexioned", I was referring to all such variants that weren't Euro-lily-white.

Well, what kind of complexion is a green-blooded creature supposed to have? Alien species won't exactly play by the same rules as humans.

In response to the thread title: obviously. One or both of Tuvok's parents were black, and they would have come before him, logically. :vulcan:

I actually like Orphalesion's "dark green" idea. :vulcan: :D

One could speculate that whIle ancient Vulcans were migrating from their ancestral location, the climate was more Earth like. Perhaps a catastrophic event cause the desertification of Vulcan?

Based on the proximity of large planets and moons in the skies of Vulcan in TMP, and because Delta Vega seemed so inexplicably close in NuTrek as to be able to watch Vulcan implode, it could be surmised that Vulcan's orbit may have been permanently perturbed by a rare super-conjunction of nearby worlds. The gravitational cross-ripping may have hosed it up for good.

The Romulan ambassador in TFF was played by an Asian actor. A couple of extras in other films were also Asian. IIRC T'Pau was played by an Asian once as well.

Back in the early days when I was a kid and all I had to watch Star Trek on was a black and white TV. I thought that T'Pring was black. Helped by Uhura's reaction.
Boy was I surprised when she turned up on "Hogan's Heroes" as a blonde.
