Thoughts on Jadzia...

These sentiments would've been so momentous if Ira Behr added some some highlights of Jadzia in the final episode. It was such a slap in the face, not 1 cast member had a memory of her from those memorable six seasons of her existence??? Wow.

...it's not like they didn't want to...there were legal complications.

There are ways of handling a finale and it's not like All Good Things... required a memory montage; if there were legal complications then don't have that segment. The way it was set up looked like a slap in the face and they should've done better in handling her character. Compromise: have Worf and Bashir visit her grave site on Bajor, present something where, maybe her face couldn't be shown but, at least her character was still among them in spirit.

No thanks; the finale had enough going on without wedging that scene in at the expense of other material.

Yes, it's a shame that they couldn't include footage of Jadzia, but it is what it is. Calling it a "slap in the face" is ridiculous considering they wanted to include footage of her.

It wasn't a good finale for me, I thought that series finale was a convoluted mess. Pretty much what the entire war seasons were on DS9.

I agree, but we've rehashed the sad events that led to loss of trust between Farrell and the producers several times...

I think overall it was a very good finale. Certainly better than no finale at all (original series, Voyager) and I think better than what they ended up with on TNG.

I strongly disagree. TNG series finale was and should've been the blue print of how to take a journey's end for a cast of characters I loved. Exploration should never end when it comes to Star Trek... there should always be... new beginnings and that DS9 finale was meh, but since this is a Jadzia thread and there was no Jadzia in that finale... then who cares?

I don't know how you can on the one hand claim that there should always be new beginnings and on the other hand claim that the DS9 finale, which did far more to put the characters in motion than the TNG finale, was "meh".

When Nemesis came along whatever was lazily brought up on DS9 was forgotten or rather ignored. I didn't see much of a new beginning of Jake, a grown man, being cuddled by Kira as the scene pans away or Sisko leaving the mother of his child to be a single parent. I didn't see much of that forced relationship between Bashir and Ezri going anywhere, nor did I see Goofy Rom having a logical progression as Grand Nagus. Miles and Keiko...Meh. Odo simply mind wiping the female changling to do whatever he wanted to stop the war was weak. We just have to agree to disagree, I loved TNG finale and thought DS9's finale was dogsh*t.

Jadzia dies... just throw in a replacement that's supposedly a station counselor but does the same stuff she did.

The Defiant goes pfoom... just throw in an identical replacement with the same name.

I sense a pattern.

Yeah my favourite is Ezri the therapist riding into battle on the bridge of the defiant not 6 months after experiencing space sickness every time she got into a runabout...

She got space sick because she was still adjusting to the symbiont. Evidently, six months later she was past it.

But a counselor on the bridge during a battle? That's complete insanity.

...Just don't tell Deanna I said that.

The Ezri/Bashir pairing reminds me of the Seven/Chakotay one: an ill-advised romance thrown together at the end of the series, taking the place of a far more interesting one.

[ETA] At least on a small escort, it would be allowable for the XO to be on the bridge in the middle of combat. Spock, Riker, Chakotay, Saru/Burnham/Tilly, and Ona should have been elsewhere on the ship.

It makes more sense than the engineer being on the bridge, who should be in (checks notes) engineering.

Deanna being on the bridge was different, she was empathically scoping out aliens and advising and counselling Picard.

Just like the CHIEF OF POLICE should be on the streets with the lower officers working the beat, its not as if regular officers can't do their jobs without the boss looking over them. Chief O'Brien was the Chief Engineer, his job is to supervise and oversee operations, he should be on the bridge; his staff knows their jobs and he'll join in when he feels its needed.

My other half recently described Jadzia as "cocky" when I asked why she didn't like her. It's not hard to see why you might think it.

"The aliens shooting at us have great feelings of hostility, Captain!"

 She was pretty useful for knowing when people were being deceptive, at least. Plus Deanna just sat next to Picard and hung out, Ezri was sitting at console.
