The Witcher - Netflix

Well sure, but I think the idea of it being a viable series, worth spending money on, game from the success of Game of Thrones.

Well that, there can be no doubt. I think Game of Thrones came out at a perfect time too. The world was ready for a good fantasy TV series. After GoT ended, they began searching for other properties to mine, and I think what the games did do was grow an awareness for the property and show that there was maybe something there worth exploring as a TV series. I do think that the novels are fairly obscure.

Later I read that it had a lot of sex and played it and loved it (but not for the sex).

And that part of it wasn't even that good. I was actually put off by the fact that the game had cards of women that you'd collect, which felt really skeevy, and I was glad they had abandoned that idea for the sequels.

I'll have to pay attention during a S1 re-watch, but did Geralt use Quen(the forcefield/shield thing you see very clearly multiple times in this trailer) at all in s1?

I also can't remember, so not often.
I used It more in the games :D

I only remember him doing The Witcher version of "force push".

Great trailer, can't wait for the season to start.

That was a great trailer, this new season looks like it'll be really good. These few couple months are gonna be amazing for fantasy fans, with The Wheel of Time starting in a couple weeks, and this next month.

Just finished season 2. Yennifer managed to keep her clothes on all the way through sadly but it was still pretty good.
I was wondering why we never saw the White Flame but now I know. They probably have to explain that twist in season 3 so it makes more sense.

I thought Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) looked much noticeably skinnier during S2. She looked gorgeous in S1 so it's a shame if she felt the need to lose weight.

I'll put some of the stuff about the season in spoilers just since someone may jump in to the thread who just started or isn't done S2 yet.

The scenery and sets in this show are just so spectacular and add so much to the ambiance of the story. Comparing the look and feel of Castles and Keeps in the Witcher to say Wheel Of Time there's just a hands down win for The Witcher.

Now that we know the characters this season was without the time-jumps and didn't need a 'monster of the week' type element to set-up Geralt. I felt it really helped. Triss felt really haphazard though. The mood of the character went all over the place to the point it almost felt like she was replaced by a shapeshifter or something. That's how extreme it was.

The reveal on Ciri's Father having played the games I knew it, but it was really neat how in that fake vision/dream if you notice Ciri's Mom was turning to dust, but her Father actually was not. A bit of a hint that he was the only one in that dream world who was still living.

Thanks for coding the spoiler, I've only watched the first episode so far.
Really enjoyed it. Definitely some interesting stuff with Nivellen and Vereena, kind of went back and forth between being sympathetic, and then feeling like they got what they deserved.

Finished it last night and it was good - not must watch levels of Game of Thrones during its height or any other show i really was invested too but a quite good show and obviously Cavill "kills" it ( no pun intended) as Geralt. I especially liked the broadening of the scope, introducing the other Witchers that are still alive and building up the mystery about Ciri.

For some reason that i don't know i find the story, especially with who does what and why, quite confusing and boring - i just can't get that completely into the world as i used to and just enjoy the characters as they appear, chief amongst them Jaskier who is the best :lol: ( and the actor is actually built when we see him in one scene shirtless! Wonder if he specially trained for it to look good).

Now that the show revealed what are probably the big bads i hope season 3 picks up and gets more engaging, i'll be there to watch that's for sure.

Side Note:

The promotion tour for this "revealed" ( again) how big of a nerd Cavill is and he doesn't hold back with it anymore when asked. It led to some really good interviews where the host is not trying to get a cheap laugh out of it ( actually saw one where the interviewer seems to be into that area too and they really went down the rabbit hole with the interviewer actually giving him pointers what he should watch next) and of course some hosts/interviewers still putting "nerd" hobbies into the weird category ( grown men playing videogames or playing games with miniatures). You can really see it on Cavill's face what he thinks of either approach - if they're genuinely interested or even actually knowledgeable about that area he really opens up and starts talking, with the others you can see he's pulling back and staying neutral while probably thinking "Well, that's part of the job. Get your cheap laughs and i'm out of here as soon as the show ends".

In either way hobby circles regularly explode when Cavill starts talking shop - Facebook won't calm down for weeks .

I'm not reading through the thread until I watch the series. I think it is a great choice to forward the events of the saga while continuing to interpret the original short stories. In this case "A Grain of Truth". I like this approach because we might actually get to see the stories that we didn't see last season, and that this episode really gave us the chance to see Ciri and Geralt build their relationship with each other--which is a part of their relationship that is not seen in the books themselves. I also like that the show is not afraid of building the characters around story details from the novels that we haven't seen yet, but it does so without really giving those details away.

Finished it in one go today.
it‘s been ages since I could binge an entire season of anything that quickly.

The production quality has definitely improved over season 1 and the story has broadened it‘s scope.
I could relate to the characters better overall and the universe didn’t feel so empty anymore.

Was the First Season also this gory? At times it almost got to the level of the animated prequel movie!

That's the way the stories go as well. Since the first installments were published as short stories, the true world-building doesn't really happen until Blood of Elves. However, the short stories do provide important character moments and development that are important to the ongoing story. Season 1 was world-building and getting to know our characters and season 2 gets into the saga proper. I am curious how many seasons Netflix is committed for, as to tell the full story they are going to need more than their usual 3-4 seasons.
