The Obsidia

Working on an alien ship type. Inspired by the lines of the warp "plates" I came up with for another recent ship, I decided to make an entire ship with a similar aesthetic with flattish geometric shapes. The asphalt black hull gives it the working title of The Obsidia.

For maximum effect, add in really, really dark greys. Right now it's a bit of a formless mass, but selective colouring can make it pop way better. That sounds contra to what you're trying to accomplish, but trust me, works. When you're starting to render stuff, you can add point lights. That's what they did for the TMP Enterprise to let the details pop.

TY. Yes. The whole thing was black at first. I switched to asphalt which added texture with a very dark charcoal gray color. You can see the difference in the "exhausts" of the nacelles, but the rest needs contrasts, and a little stronger contrasts. I will be working on that over the weekend. I am thinking about lights as well. I do like the light purple. That's a color I would normally not like to use with ship models, but I think it works here.

Not sure which of those patterns to go with. They dont really flow together. Easy to adjust though.

If you really don't know, export the top view as jpg and print them so you can doodle with it.
