The Night Of The Doctor

Have they ever served a purpose before? I suppose in The Impossible Astronaut, they differentiated the Doctor who got killed from his younger self. But this was the first time that the exact age seemed all that relevant. Certainly the first time I can think of that it depended on consistency between Doctors.

Well, there was the time when the Doctor guessed the Rani's passcode because it was her age and was thus the same as his own, but the actual number could've been anything and served the same purpose.

NO! The sonic screwdriver finished the calculation during that scene! It finished as soon as the Doctor looked at it! :p

The sonic screwdriver is a quantum computer. It might have completed a decade ago, but it does not fall into a complete/not complete state until you look at it.

You know what I would have liked to have seen in this mini, for continuity's sake? It would have been cool to see a recreation of Eight's TARDIS from the TV movie, from a style & design point of view (instead of what is essentially a redress of 9/10's prop). They then could have distressed it to give it that been-through-the-time-war-for-ages look.

The producers could then have used it for the War Doctor's TARDIS in "Day of the Doctor". It just would have been cool to see that TVM TARDIS alongside Ten's & Eleven's in that scene at the gallery towards the end.

Of course, it also certainly plausible that Eight's TARDIS had gotten a make-over into the "nuWho" style between the TVM & "Night of the Doctor" (the same time as he changed his costume, perhaps), but it still would have been neat to see a classic-style TARDIS in these episodes for Eight/WarDoc.

I honestly can't see the War Doctor going for the elegant Victorian steampunk style that the Eighth Doctor kept in the closing minutes of the movie. That just screamed, "Sit down and relax!" I'm guessing he probably had a rather spartan, utilitarian sort of TARDIS, and the Ninth Doctor brought back a little steampunk and crossed it with... whatever you want to call the modern mess.

^ I was actually referring specifically to the exterior of the TVM TARDIS, not the interior, but yeah, it's hard to imagine the WarDoc sitting back in one of those comfy chairs, his feet up with a book and a steaming tea at his side while the Time War was raging outside. :D Also very unlikely they would have spent the bucks to recreate the interior just for the relatively brief appearance it made in DotD.

I have to admit, I'm not really up on the variations on the TARDIS exterior. I'd notice if it was no longer a police box or if they painted it pink, but otherwise I don't really take much note of it. :p

You get your Pink TARDIS in Seven's Second Series, in the Serial, The Happiness Patrol

Eleven called it "His grunge phase." Five called it "coral."

And it didn't look like a Police Box thoughout much of Attack Of The Cybermen.

I'd like to know more about the filming schedule of "The Day of the Doctor."

It's possible that during McGann's two days on set for "The Night of the Doctor" Hurt's TARDIS set wasn't standing or available.

I also wish that the shot at the end of all the Doctors together had coincided with McGann's days on set for "Night."

Agreed. Seemed like a missed opportunity to update Eight's look and also include new scenes with McGann

Instead they had to use a body double with CGI face masked onto Eight

Plus still using footage from the 1996 movie.

Well, keep in mind that not everyone who watched "Day of..." on TV would've seen "Night of..." online. They might not have recognized McGann in the brief glimpses we got if he hadn't had his familiar look from the movie.

Didn't BBCA air Night prior to Day?

I know Night was on On Demand Menu

No. BBC Ametica showed an atrocious pregame show between "Name" and "Day" on tge anniversary. They did show "Night" on Christmas Day, though.

I'm not sure about Christopher's reasoning. If the filming dates had coincided for the All Doctors scene, it would have been more practical and cheaper to use McGann rather than a stand-in and CGI. Yes, a large percentage of the audience wouldn't have known about McGann's new costume... but a large percentage wouldn't have known about his old costume, either. They'd have just known he was one of the Doctors.
