The Expendables 3

The cast is getting larger and larger. A 90 minute running time would be an insult right now.

"Ok guys, the runtime is 90 minutes, and 60 minutes of it are explosions, which means each of you gets exactly 1 line to say."

Sean Connery would have been awesome in Skyfall. The whole buildup, DB5, Scotland, it was just disappointing that it wasn't Connery who greeted them at Skyfall.
It might have been too much of a distraction.

That's exactly why they didn't do it - there's an interview somewhere where Sam Mendes and Babs Broccoli say they did originally think of asking Connery to play that part, but they decided very quickly that it would just pull too many people right out of the movie.

Although as I watching the movie on opening night I sort of wished it had been, by about five minutes later I'd figured out they must have thought that, and I do think it was the right call not to have him.

I do wish they'd cast a real Scot though - ideally Brian Cox...

^ ... And for all we know, they did, and he did.

"Sir Sean told us to 'suck it, Trebek style.' What do we do?"
"Make up some artistic reason why we decided not to even ask!"

:p

Lionsgate and Millennium Films will begin principal photography today on THE EXPENDABLES 3, the third installment of THE EXPENDABLES action-thriller franchise, with production shooting on location in Bulgaria and at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 will feature Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to their roles in the first two films with Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford joining the all-star cast along with Kellan Lutz, MMA star Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell.

Patrick Hughes (RED HILL) will direct the film, with veteran Dan Bradley (The BOURNE franchise; MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, QUANTUM OF SOLACE) directing the second unit. THE EXPENDABLES 3 is written by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt, who previously teamed on OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, and Sylvester Stallone. Avi Lerner, Kevin King-Templeton, Danny Lerner and Les Weldon are producing THE EXPENDABLES 3. Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and John Thompson are executive producing. Lionsgate will release THE EXPENDABLES 3 in North America and the UK on August 15, 2014.

In THE EXPENDABLES 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill - or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables - but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables' most personal battle yet.

I wonder if Mel Gibson is actually going to be as big as this in the film:

Synopsis looks promising. And I know there's not a whole lot of love out there for poor old crazy-eye Mel, but I've always loved his movies and I'm sure he'll do well in this.

They started filming this week so I'd say Gibson really is going to be that big.

funny, I never noticed Stallone's character is named Barney lol

What's always with these age-o-phobe comments regarding people's age?
Sorry, what I meant to say was Ford LOOKS old. He's only 71, but looks like he's made of paper. I contrast that to Arnold in the same picture, who's only 5 years younger or for that matter, Stallone who is 67, both of whom look fantastic.

I have nothing against old people. I plan on being an old people one day.

I suspect the difference is that Ford's coffin will not need a child proof lid?

Well here's a name that you wouldn't normally expect to be running around guns blazing with the rest of the cast... Kelsey Grammer is allegedly in talks to join The Expendables 3 in the role of an ex-mercenary that was originally offered to Nicolas Cage.

He's taking the role intended for Cage so while Cage has done action stunts lets not pretend he did fights so tough that no one could fill his shoes.

Kelsey was Beast after all and his Transformers 4 character is alleged to have to some gruff so I'll be curious to see what he brings to the table for this.
