The Expendables 3

I hope this one will be the "serious" one. In EX1 they were trying to see if the formula works, but couldn't quite get the ball rolling because of budget and schedules. In Expendables 2 budget and schedules weren't that big a problem anymore, and was all about celebrating the 80s action stars. Everyone basically played the persona they are remembered for. Chuck Norris jokes, Terminator I'll be back jokes, all that stuff.

Now that they a) showed that the formula works and b) had their fun, I hope that Expendables 3 invests a lot in good characters and a good story.

In that regard I also hope the film is at least 120 minutes long. Expendables 2 was WAY too short, which showed especially in the last act when all the characters appear completely out of nowhere. And Van Damme, the main bad guy, didn't get much screentime.

Boaz Davidson, Executive Producer of EX3, tweeted filming is going to start in 7 days.

He also posted the line up:

Sylvester Stallone
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Harrison Ford
Mel Gibson
Wesley Snipes
Antonio Banderas
Jason Statham
Dolph Lundgren
Jet Li
Randy Couture
Terry Crews

That is an even greater cast than that of Expendables 2. Holy shit. Snipes, Li and Statham. I hope they are seriously using those guys' martial arts potential to the fucking MAX.

Too bad that those 3 will probably be on the good team.. can you imagine an all in brawl between those two?:eek::eek:

This is why i love these movies.. cheesy lines, awesome action scenes just for the heck of it and bad acting. It's all there!:lol:

Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
Boy, is it ever. The "serious" version is these guys are international criminals, borderline terrorists, who have no business taking all their weapons into all sorts of countries, let alone bringing them back to the States. The "serious" version has them serving some serious jail time before being on parole forever.

If 2 is the "unserious" version, than more of that only, please.

Due to the inherent absurdity of the concept, I'm not sure how good a story can really be told with these flicks. I say just keep having over-the-top fun...

Expendables 2 was WAY too short
Rubbish. At ~100 minutes, it was about exactly as long as Casablanca. The last thing we need from this franchise is some bloated, Nolanesque butt-numbing ordeal. We need a two-hour Expendables movie about as much as we need a 2.5-hour Lone Ranger. :p

It would have been nice to have Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme in the same movie. Maybe next time. And no Jackie Chan? I thought he was onboard.

I was also surprised to see Wesley Snipes' name. I thought he had a year or two to go on his prison sentence.

Snipes was sent to jail a few months before filming of the first film.
The role Terry Crews has, Ceaser, was written for Snipes. There are moments when you can tell it was.

His term was 3 years, he was just released a few months ago. There may be some conditions attached to his term ending but he is free to work and EX3 is the first film!!

Except screen time. If it had been Snipes from the start, the character would've been in the movie for more than five minutes.

Any news if Dulph Lundgren is returning?

Yeah, he said he's coming back.

Glad to hear that. "Sometimes it's good to hang pirates."

Shame Willis won't be back, interested to see what Ford's like.

Kinda surprised they haven't tried to get Dalton or Brosnan (or even Moore), or in fact Sean Bean for that matter.

They should really do a British Expendables...although it would probably have to star Danny Dyer unfortunately...

Sean Connery would have been awesome in Skyfall. The whole buildup, DB5, Scotland, it was just disappointing that it wasn't Connery who greeted them at Skyfall.

Once upon a time maybe...he's well and truly retired now though.
Perhaps...then again, how many times have we read the articles here on TrekToday saying that Nimoy was fully retired, doing some new photography thing, etc., etc., only to appear in the next Star Trek film...or documentary, and the next...and the next...

Every man has his price, and nobody's ever fully retired until they're dead or eating their dinner through a straw...

Danny Dyer
Lewis Collins
Ross Kemp
Bob Hoskins
Ray Winstone
Mark Ryan
Sean Pertwee
Dennis Waterman
Mark Strong
Anthony Valentine
Timothy Dalton

with a crossover guest spot from Jason Statham...

and a cameo from Roger Moore.

Thoughts on an all-female Expendables (EX4?):

Mariska Hargitay
Kate Mulgrew
Helen Mirren
The one from "Renegade" whose name I can't remember :scream:
Michelle Yeoh
Halle Berry
Jeri Ryan
Kathryn Erbe
Cynthia Nixon

Robert Davi is saying he's in Expdendables 3.

Then again, Tom Sizemore said he was in Expendables 2, so until further confirmation...
