The Enterprise NX-01 appreciation thread

For those of us who love the NX-01 designs. When I first saw Enterprise I loved the design instantly. Some may disagree, but it looked to me like a logical predecessor of the Constitution Class, while at the same time keeping with the (at the time) modern look and continuity of the TNG-VOY ships.

NX-01 has been my PC wallpaper since early in the series first run. Although there may be some similarity to Akira, so what! It clearly looked developmental and any design with a disc and two nacelles is going to resemble something in the fleet after 4 preceding shows. Some people were just grasping at straws in order to complain and feel superior in their "purity".
PS: To add to my apostasy, I love "Faith of the Heart".

I love the NX-01 design too. The smaller size, the slightly clunky functional feel, the bronze-coloured sheen, the cross-bar array at the back, the pretty glowy bit at the front.

I was just thinking about why nacelles are never on a line with the saucer section. My guess is that it's possible for nacelles to catastrophically malfunction and eject super-heated plasma forward, in which case you don't want to end up blasting the bit where all the people are.

I liked the NX-01 design from Day 1. I liked the configuration and all the detail and patterns of the hull. I never understood the criticism that it 'looks like the Akira'. Unless a person dislikes the Akira design. There is no reason why a successful NX class configuration would not be revisited in the design of future class starships. It was an interesting break from the cigar-shaped secondary hull with a saucer placed above the bow and nacelles sprouting from the cigar and running aft behind the saucer that we saw for all the other Enterprises. I read an article years ago that showed that the P-38 aircraft inspired Doud Drexler in creating some of the details of the NX. Also, I really like the refit design that he created (with the addition of a secondary hull), should 'Enterprise' have continued on for a fifth season. I really do like the NX. For me, it follows only the original U.S.S. Enterprise in my ranking of favorite Starlet designs.

I'm loving all these pictures. I agree that the NX-01 is a beauty. My heart hurt when she was so torn up in Season 3, but it made me admire her toughness.

The NX-01 has what it takes in my book. :)

My only complaint about the class is that it lookes like to much like the Akira class.
No, chronologically, the Akira looks like the NX-01. I appreciate the reverse homage.

I love "Faith of the Heart".
I like the original, loath the remix.

I'm loving all these pictures.
Me too. Anyone have the video of the Enterprise and the Columbia flying belly to belly? That shot was so beautiful.

The design grew on me. But I hated the refit. They took something sleek and made it look awkward.

Lots of NX-goodness in the new Star Trek Horizon fan film, starring the NX-04 Discovery. It's really cool seeing them shot in a similar way to the reboot Trek movies, with dirty camera lenses, shakycam, lens flares and the modern warp effects.

The filmography reminds me more of Stargate Universe or BSG, but yeah, I like how they did that. Also, I am impressed how accurately they were able to recreate the sets.

I thought it was a nice "next step" to the NCC 1701. Even Doug Drexler once hypothesized the the NX eventually becomes the 1701 through various refits.
