Knew a guy who could recite Monty Python and the Holy Grail from start to finish. This reminds me of someone I once knew who claimed I wasn't familiar with certain movies because I didn't memorize the lines...
I have a "continuity sense" that can raise a hackle when watching. I usually ignore it.I'd consider myself a Functional Hardcore Fan.
Functional in that I can turn off my Trekkiesness when I want to and can fully accept that it's just a TV show and not letting it control every aspect of my life, like some of the more..... extreme examples of the fandom.
While at the same time, I maintain an extensive library of reference materials, plus every episode and film in the highest possible quality.
I build Star Trek models in whatever precious spare time I have, while also having a sizeable collection of statues, figures, artwork, etc. All proudly displayed throughout my house.
I also named my son after my favourite starship captain and I managed to incorporate the TOS uniform colours into my wedding without too many people noticing.
Who am I kidding..... I'm just a Hardcore Fan.
Agree 100%. The NX-01 is one of the most beautiful and well balanced ships in the franchise. It has a gracefulness to it that a lot of starships lack.I'm not really a fan of the NX refit. I like the NX-01 the way it is in the show.
What episode was it again? "Demons?"

It loses all of that when you just tack on some extra bits in an effort to make it look more like a Constitution, imo.
I don't think there has ever been a successful example where taking an existing Starship design and adding extra bits to it has actually improved the design....
The Excelsior looks significantly better than the Enterprise-B, the All Good Things... Future Enterprise-D is a monstrosity, and tbe NX-01 Refit, as mentioned, is kinda fugly.
To me, it's a lot like a beautiful car. Some designer spent hundreds of hours balancing out a design. Giving it perfectly sweeping lines and contours to match.
Then someone takes this beautiful design and throws a bunch of crap on it. Ugly rims, an ungodly huge spoiler, a different hood and a body kit.
What was once a beautifully well thought out design, has now become a mismatch of shapes and lines.
IMO.
Yeah, that's a belief I also share, that the Franklin was just a fairly standard ship that they happened to use to test out an updated engine, or something to that effect. That's why we'd never heard of it before, it was just a minor footstep on the way to Warp 5 and the NX-01.It's just my head canon but I like the idea of there being more Franklin looking ships, the Freedom-class. In my mind Franklin was originally just a nothing special ship but it's just the one that got to Warp 4, whether they did something special with it like a special engine or it was just some stock engine. Like Franklin to me wasn't interesting that it had history or was special, I liked it because it was a piece of shit and the only thing that was available.
Continuity stuff doesn’t much bother me, but getting actual real-life science blatantly wrong punches me in the face: VOY’s made-up idea of how nebulae form (and to a lesser extent, TWOK’s idea of them being visibility-impairing fogs with a boundary that jolts you when you enter), DISCO’s idea of what time crystals are, etc.I have a "continuity sense" that can raise a hackle when watching. I usually ignore it.
