Yeah, with the exception of the Wonder Woman movies and Shazam! DC has been on a "let's make it look like the air pollution in Blade Runner and even more poorly lit" kick. Tyler Hoechlin's costume on TV is the second best.

A string of bad films will do that to anyone going into a new year. The FF still offers some promise, but the rest...not to any degree.

Interesting that Superman and FF seem a lot brighter than past DCEU and MCU productions.

Cinematic styles ebb and flow—we’ve had about a quarter century of continuously produced superhero films. Plenty of time to age out of a previously dominant style.

Yeah, it wasn't bad when a few movies did it, but once practically every action or SFF movie that came out started doing it, it got old fast.

You're not alone there. I've been feeling that way for roughly a decade now.

About half a decade for me. Who knew Endgame would really be an endgame for cape flicks.

Superman is the only thing that has caught my attention lately.

That's great, and believe me, I want scifi cape flicks to still be the standard. But what I am seeing isn't hitting the mark.
Kinda on/off topic but someone on a certain imageboard that shall not be named compared Tron: Legacy teaser trailer side by side with the new Tron: Ares teaser trailer.
Watching them in that comparison, goddamn the difference was like night and day.
I feel a similar sense about the first Man of Steel teaser, and the new Superman teaser that we got.

Yes it can be a pleasant change but I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie. Regarding your second point I blame the success of Nolan's Batman trilogy for that. Not every superhero needs to be dark and depressing. Not even Batman.

I also think back to the X-Men cinematic franchise and how it eschewed the bright costumes from the comics. "What would you prefer? Yellow spandex?"

Yes it can be a pleasant change but I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie. Regarding your second point I blame the success of Nolan's Batman trilogy for that. Not every superhero needs to be dark and depressing. Not even Batman.

While I love the Dark Knight trilogy, and The Batman, at this point I'd be just as happy to get a new movie that goes full on Batman '66 when it comes to the style and tone. We've gotten plenty of dark gritty Batman, it's time to go in the opposite direction.

Definitely lighter, and with much less faux-“realistic” posturing. Burton knew how to make the character’s darkness fanciful and playful. That’s the way to go.

Yeah. The Batman replaced The Dark Knight as my least favorite Batman film. I can't believe it's getting a sequel. I'm in no hurry to see it though. Maybe when it comes to blu ray I'll borrow a friend's copy.

I feel that Dennis O'Neil's Batman and Detective Comics comics hit exactly the right tone, and that's what the Batman movies should be trying to emulate.
