Starfleet Officers Rings

I'm sorry if someone has already brought this up but a small observation I have made in the three viewings that I've had of the film so far and one of my favourite additions to the alternate universe is the useage of what appear to be officer rings! You can see one on the right fingers of Pike, Sulu, and Scotty at the transporter console and near the end of the movie when he's giving Captain Kirk the status report. Pike's ring appears to be different from the others, maybe each division have their own rings. McCoy also has a ring. At first I thought it was a homage to De because McCoy has a ring on his finger in all of his appearences but then I started noticing it on others. I wonder if this has been brought up before and I would love to get a command ring lol.

I wonder if it's a class ring - you know, for your class at the academy. Does Uhura have one, too?

I noticed Christopher Pike's ring on the bridge and at the ceremony, mostly because he has nice hands. I didn't notice the other officers' rings, except for Scotty -- who was also wearing a cool, futuristic chronometer.

Unfortunately, the realist in me is always thinking about the TOS IDIC in these situations, wondering if it's something else someone plans to "moichendise" in connection with the show -- as was the case with the IDIC.

I saw them on Scotty and Pike, and jumped to the conclusion that they're Academy class rings. They're big and noticeable - just like modern West Point and Annapolis rings.

The cadets wouldn't have gotten them yet. And I imagine that Spock and McCoy could care less about those kind of baubles. Class rings everywhere are pretty much optional.

Jeri,
I noticed Scotty's watch as well. The sad thing is, I think I've seen it somewhere in a fashion mag. And I can't remember where. :wah: Damn. I love accessories.

Yes I thought they were Starfleet Academy graduation rings myself when I saw them. Kirk, Spock, and Uhura did not have rings. Neither did I see them on Chekov either. I wonder why the randomness or maybe these were mistakes. I'm still wondering if Kirk graduated from the Academy and the end of the movie takes place a year from the Nero incident. I dobut it since everyone was reconvened from the hearing and Kirk given his original thinking medal.

I would also love to have one of those rings. Seems easy enough to start selling them, right?

Well, but even these days, not everybody wears a ring from his or her class - even people who went to West Point or another of the academies. It's not part of the uniform or anything.

I would love one too! That would be seriously awesome!

which reminds me, on my old car i had a STARFLEET ACADEMY sticker on my rear window. That car has since died and i need one on my new car. Anyone know where i could get one? i hate driving around without one.

Starfleet recently discovered Wonder Twin technology.
Either that or those communicators get smaller every year.
Of course they could just be class rings I suppose.
But if they're mood rings, I want to see Spock's.
