News Star Trek: Voyager Documentary Filming Soon

I wonder what the odds are that they could actually bring Lien in for this? I have no idea how she's doing nowadays. She was my early favorite on Voyager and I'd love for her to participate but I'm guessing it's not likely.

I'm genuinely curious to see this. I wonder if this is going to be as big of a production as the DS9 one was.

Probably not good. They might have an older interview, like they did with Brooks for the DS9 Doc. I don't think it's right to go to her for this Doc with what she's been dealing with anyway.

A VOYAGER documentary seems an odd decision, DS9 was a rather controversial show, the black sheep of the Trek franchise and influential in shaping television. VOYAGER is considered a least favorite show among Trekkers and seems to lack the originality or trailblazing quality of DS9, besides having a female captain. I guess they could make it about that and its influence on Discovery?

I feel like a good chuck of any Voyager documentary would be kind of like an episode of "E! True Hollywood Story". You've got the Kate Mulgrew & Jeri Ryan stuff, Garrett Wang almost being fired, Robert Beltran's gripes about the writing and direction, the general meddling with the show done by the network, etc.

If they follow DS9s example they will, the DS9 documentary interviewed both Terry Farrell and nicole d'bore about Farrell's departure and replacement. The difference is that Farrell wanted out of her contract to do films and Becker, whereas the producers wanted to get rid of Lien, i'd really like to know if getting canceled from the show led to her current downfall.

If it's anything like their last couple documentaries I'm sure it will be great and worth a buy. Voyager is the only trek series without any retrospective documentaries so I'm excited to get one.

I know about the TNG one, the Spock one, the Captains one, and the DS9 one, but did ENTERPRISE have one?

I want to watch this, although I'm not as excited about it as I was the DS9 one. I wonder how in depth it will be regarding Lien being let go so that Ryan could be hired? And other behind-the-scenes strangeness, for that matter?

I enjoy Voyager for what it is (currently in S5 in my rewatch), but how popular was Voyager in the grand scheme of things?

Enterprise had excellent (and frank) multi-part documentaries, cast reunion roundtables etc, made for the upscales on Blu-ray, back in 2013.

TNG same, taking advantage of their own from the ground up remaster and releases on disc.

Sad that it took a Kickstarter for DS9, and that we still seem no closer to a DS9 remastering project. But the resultant doc was well worth the years it took to reach us... and if it didn't twist anybody's arm at CBS, I guess nothing ever will.

Awesome Voyager is getting a look-in to celebrate its own fandom. I'd really like to see some clips rescanned for HD. I assume the CG VFX can be uprezzed and look as reasonably okay as ENT?

VOY is apparently one of the most popular/watched of all the Trek series on Netflix. And there's a whole new diverse young audience thanks to Tumblr. So even if it's not an old fans/nostalgia audience like TNG and DS9, there's potentially a new fanbase for a VOY doc.

Voyager is VERY popular here in the UK, perhaps the second most loved retro Trek after TNG. Most of my (late 20s-early 30s) generation remember it very well.

Janeway and Seven are certainly rememebred here as gay icons.

Congratulations, Voyager folks.

I am a little surprised by the lack of details. When DS9's documentary was announced, filming had been taking place for years. Moreover, we already knew who the host/interviewer would be. Is there someone who can step into the Shatner/Behr role? Garrett Wang?

How much candor can we expect from the particulars? The Jennifer Lien matter is only one of several things I can think that could be addressed. Braga seems to have been thoughtful about his role in the show. Others have been less reflective. Will Bryan Fuller go off on everyone? Are we going to hear people talk about why they were opposed to Ryan, not just Mulgrew?

I don't know, I mean I have one of the Edward Gross unauthorized books, and whether or not you like him, there seems to be a story behind the making of the series, which I think could be interesting to see.

It's probably my least favorite Trek series, but I did like it at the start (even remember getting Star Trek: Voyager branded microwave popcorn from our local TV station to promote the premiere!)

If done well, it could be an interesting watch, and if done with no punches pulled (the idea at the start to try and make it more like TOS by making it more a ship on its own, some more adventure, etc and document where some bad decisions were made) would make it good to watch.

While I wouldn't say that Voyager is my favorite Trek series, I have to admit that when I'm looking for some Trek to put on while I'm doing chores or just puttering around the house doing whatever, Voyager is definitely the one I find myself revisiting the most. I grew up on TNG but as much as I love that show, I feel like I've seen those episodes so many times over the years and am so familiar with them that I rarely find myself wanting to put them on these days. And I loooove DS9, but personally think some of those episodes are a little too "heavy" to put on for casual viewing. And I never watched more than a couple episodes of Enterprise, mainly due to having just started college and not having a lot of time for TV. Voyager is just so easy to put on and let play while I'm doing work or whatever.
