OK! So yes was caught off guard after my review here a couple of months ago. I watched a glossy, fun, action-oriented movie that to me was on par or better than other such recent movies of such type regardless of genre but certainly better than most recent scifi films.
I'm still of the mind the pre-generated anti-hype of the movie had a lot to do with the general view of this TV movie, and there's really no going against that tide. It gave impetus to people with all of contemporary trek's recent successes to finally say: this one had no cachet! We're free to hate this one! Engage bandwagon jumping.
Whatever the outcome, I stated Paramount would be most interested on how it performs on its platform, and my quick research suggests it did well on P+ and even managed a brief spot on the Neilson top 10. The disc versions also sold well in pre-ordering. So I think TV movies are still on the table for the future, though Sec31, will not be.
PS Yes, I'd watch a TV series that fleshed out these characters. Though Sec31 was an unannounced pilot, I don't think they'll go forward.
