Star Trek Produced By Mavrocine Pictures Gmbh & Co. Kg?

I just watched a leaked version of Star Trek on DVD and at the end it said that the film was:

Copyright 2009 Mavrocine Pictures Gmbh & Co. Kg

What?

They are a German production company but this doesn't make any sense to me as the film was made in the US... and by Paramount Pictures/Spyglass/Bad Robot so for me to see ANOTHER company other than Paramount at the end was strange.

Remmeber it is NOT copyright Paramount it is copyright Mavrocine Pictures!

Someone must know the story here?

There's no detail or explanation, but I find this at Memory Alpha:

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/MavroCine_Pictures

And here again, in the listing of credits (scroll down -- it's almost at the very bottom):

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Credits_for_Star_Trek_%28film%29

I find that "Produced in association with MavroCine Pictures" line on several other pages listing credits for Star Trek, but no explanation. In only one case I've seen so far have they been listed as copyright-holder; the same page has at the top "Country of Origin: Germany/USA". [Edit: I've since found others giving them as copyright-holder.]

I have no idea what that's about.

I notice "Alaska Department of Natural Resource" is listed in the Acknowledgments, so they may have at least obtained some stock film for the glacier scenes. I realize the ice and snow sets were staged on the lot and CGI'd; but I thought some of the aerial shots looked real, so perhaps they were after all.

Hi,

I run one of the sites linked to in post #2 and may be able to shed a bit of light on this one. For a few years now there's been a tax incentive system in place in Germany which massively benefits the Hollywood studios and Paramount in particular have been big users of it. You can read more about it here which hopefully will shed some light on its murky mysteries. It's all to do with tax deductions through German-owned investment funds and is quite complicated but the upshot is that a good many supposedly US films are in fact owned by German companies - some recent examples include Rambo, Outlander, Blade II, a couple of Lord of the Rings films and literally dozens of others. I'm not sure how much sense any of this makes (I don't fully understand it myself!) but follow the link above to get a more in-depth explanation.
