Paramount+ Cancelled Shows: Grease, Star Trek, The Game — Full List – TVLine
Star Trek: Prodigy comes as the biggest surprise of this bunch, as the animated series had already been renewed for a second season. Though Prodigy will be removed from the streamer “shortly,” post-production is being completed on Season 2 and the studio will attempt to find a home for it. Meanwhile, Paramount+ says it remains committed to its upcoming slate of Star Trek projects, including the YA-targeted Starfleet Academy and the movie event Star Trek: Section 31.

Why “shop around” the second season? It was made for P+ so why isn’t it being shown there? That makes no sense to me. Although I didn’t get the impression this show had much of a viewership, which is sad because I liked it a lot more than I expected.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this. It never appeared as one of the most popular at any given time list of even P+ children shows on the app. I saw a few ratings from when it aired on Nickelodeon and it did poorly in viewers compared to everything else on the channel. A few months ago one of the writers was on twitter encouraging people to watch the show and to watch it again if we had already seen it. It just didn't seem to catch on like LD did - I think many adults thought it was just for children and didn't give it a chance...while the kids themselves didn't seem too interested.

Probably because it was developed in partnership with Nickelodeon so that was helping offset some costs.
I just posted a link on another thread suggesting that Paramount is probably for the chopping block. Not only cancelling shows but removing them from the platform doesn’t bode well for the future, alas.
Peace out, P+.

Sad, but not surprising. While it was a phenomenal kid friendly take on Star Trek, I don't know if it was ever watched in large numbers by its intended target audience. I watched it, but I always with the thought, "most people watching this are probably adult trek fans like me" in the back of my head.

Edit: Christ, are we even going to reach the end of Strange New Worlds Season 2 at this rate?

I'm shocked and actually mad about this. Prodigy was actually one of my favorite of the new Trek series and it felt like the closest to the actual spirit of Star Trek. I'm shocked. I know Paramount is cutting costs, but wasn't prodigy one of the cheapest shows to make?

I much rather have prodigy than the Academy series (Which I've never been interested in) or Section 31 (Which goes against the spirit of Trek to begin with).

Sadly this was probably the least watched of the Star Trek shows. I think a lot of adults probably never gave it a chance because they thought it was for kids. There’s still a lot of prejudice towards animated shows especially in the US.

At least they’re finishing season 2 up so they can shop it around. Maybe Netflix picks it up.
