Stop getting your hopes up over the Enterprise-F or Seven.
But what better time for a new Enterprise to take the Star Trek Universe forward in a positive way, taking the franchise back to the very foundations of how it began - on a *new* Enterprise. The world is recovering from a pandemic and other terrible events such as those currently happening in Ukraine. Hopefully the Ukraine situation will resolve soon, it is heart breaking what is going on. I know that Star Trek has nothing to do with world events, but Star Trek *has* inspired scientists, astronauts, politicians, artists, writers, musicians and people who work in the tech industry so it should go back to inspiring people for the future so that we can all build a better one. A new series would need to also inspire *hope* for the future.

It’s almost like the world has had a bit of a tragic reboot over the past few years, so a soft reboot of Star Trek taking the franchise forward as an inspirational prestige ‘hall mark’ show that *anybody* could watch and enjoy is probably the way to take Trek forward. Something to make Star Trek a bit more mainstream again, like during the peak of its popularity with The Next Generation in the 1990’s. It would make sense to set such a show on the Enterprise, whoever it’s Captain may be. I would settle for Seven of Nine serving as the Enterprise Commander, if not Captain. But that ship *would* need an amazing Captain if it was not going to be Seven. Setting a show on the Titan would be cool, but I think that ship should be more of a ‘bridge’ passing the baton over to a new hero ship for a new series… a ship called Enterprise. There has never been a better time. :techman:

Despite the war in Ukraine (), they aren't going to make the hero ship of a new show a decade old STO design. They'd be wanting to make a new design like they've done with the Stargazer and the Titan-A (even if both are based on older designs). They've used the existing F in PIC S3 as it's not the main focus of the show, and since the STO design has been around for so long now, sure why not?

If a future show ever has an Enterprise as the hero ship again, it ain't going to be the F.

Well Terry Matalas might need to blow the Enterprise F up in Picard season 3 so that they can have a G, but that would be a waste of the alphabet. Seven on the seventh Enterprise would also have sounded cooler. The Enterprise should *not* be reduced to ‘cameos’. I think that the Star Trek online ship looks great though, I used to fly it as one of my ships many years ago (or at least something *very* similar) before my Star Trek Online account got hacked.

Sure, I like the E-F too. Although maybe only from certain angles. Wish I had got one of the Eaglemoss models before they went bust.

The hero of the new theoretical series doesn't need to be an Enterprise.
I'm also not sure how the War in the Ukraine relates to that.

I did not mean to relate the war in Ukraine to Star Trek, I was just commenting on how so many bad things have happened in the world recently, COVID included, and that it would be good to watch a Star Trek series which gives people hope and inspiration about the future rather than a doom and gloom dystopia. Star Trek has inspired people to build a better future in the past… politicians, artists, scientists etc… this should be the focus of a Star Trek show, inspiring the ‘next generation’ to build a better world so that one day we might want to live in a world similar to Star Trek. Star Trek as depicted in Picard is becoming a bit like Blade Runner.

Not a clue, I was just referring to Timofnine’s mention of the war (hence the confused emoji)
I hope this explains, sorry for bringing up such a controversial subject on a Star Trek message board. Quoted my previous post below instead of copying and pasting to help clarify.

This should be a new board rule, if you repeat a previous message you have to put it in a quote from yourself instead of making it look like a new reply. :D

I see what you're saying there and I think the past couple of seasons of Discovery have tried to do that. Discovery emerging in a fractured future that has seen the Federation reduced to galactic irrelevance and even Earth preferring to be an independent state. Then Disco and crew proceed to sew the seeds of reunification and begin to bring everyone back into the fold.

Now, all that said, your mileage varies as to whether or not they've been successful. Disco is not really as "mainstream" as they would like it to be. IMHO, TNG became mainstream because of 1. a successful series of TOS-based movies and 2. a lack of other original ST content at the time and nostalgia for that said TOS content.

I think this episode is a bit underrated. It did not have the best start, but looking back after the entire season, this is the episode that really set up what happened in the big finale (with 2 big plot developments in the open, and a third that is hinted at). A rewatch is kind to it.

I'm watching this with the kids. They kinda know Star Trek. All the movies, some TOS, some TNG, no DS9, all of SNW. About half way through the ice cream scene my daughter says "They're still on the holodeck. It's a holodeck episode."
LOL! Smart kid.

Yes, it's a holodeck-gone-awry episode. But not a zero-stakes one by any stretch of the imagination. And it turns the "only way out is through" paradigm of a number of holodeck episodes (not to mention "The Royale" and "Move Along Home") on its ear.

And I'd rather see ten holodeck episodes than one Borg episode or one Section 31 episode, or one episode with a gratuitous "eye-scream." (Now that I think about it, better gratuitous ice cream than gratuitous eye-scream.)
