What bugs me is that the Romulans can so easily covertly enter the N.Z. and yet the UFP can't.

To be fair, technically, the UFP did go into the N.Z already.... the Protostar is a Federation ship after all (even if it is run by non-Starfleet people for the time being) - but if the Romulans knew the Protostar is UFP ship, why didn't they declare war against the UFP right then and there like they would have if the Dauntless got into the N.Z.?

Because the only thing keeping the Dauntless out of the Neutral Zone was the Federation's quest for peace. If the Romulans declare open war, suddenly there's nothing keeping the Dauntless from slipstreaming in and shanking them all. Meanwhile, not declaring war didn't exactly stop the Romulans from going in anyway.

Openly declaring war against the Federation gains the Romulans nothing and potentially loses them the Protostar.

Loved the Romulans in this. Would like to see the sleeker, elite Romulans in live action sometime.
The episode had some nice revelations too without really giving anything away.

I wonder if Diviner coming back in time and planting the virus in the Protostar is what leads to the destruction of his homeworld.
their Armor suits have some similarity to the MCRN Power Armor from The Expanse, just with the romulan metallic fabric texturing on the panels instead of just plain matte plastic. so it should be possible to make them with practical effects.

I do love that the romulan armor-suits seem to be more than just armored spacesuits. they include antigravity systems (ala Federation 'levitation boots' from ST:V ) so they can fly, and i suspect they also included tricorder, commbadge, and possible even some degree of personal shielding.

and that last i why i think the lightning did what it did, when Rok and Gywn both had packs full of metal parts. i think Gywn's heirloom weapon has some field generating effect (possibly part of how it can reshape itself), which would also help explain why she had it out to begin with.. in that arm-shield configuration the fields it emits might help deflect disruptor fire.

The geneticist did also mention Proto-Organian, which is... Huh?
Organians were physical, biological beings before they ascended to a higher existence as incorporeal entities. (they remark they were once humanoid in TOS "errand of mercy", and in ENT "observer effect" the observer organians make similar remarks to each other.
presumably someone found an archeological site from before the organian ascension, took some genetic samples from any remains found, and incorporated them into Dal and any siblings he had.

my own thoughts is that Dal is like Udar, a failed experiment where whatever special traits were intended mostly didn't manifest. given the species being mixed, i wonder if the goal wasn't something similar to the kids from Darwin Genetic Research Station, with enhanced physical, mental, and psychic abilities? perhaps even attempting to recreate the Ancestral Humanoids?

Very good points on Gwyn's heirloom. In order to stop disruptor fire as reliably as it seems to do, it indeeds needs to generate some kind of force field and she can change its configuration. It is far better explanation than just the metal, as Rok herself was carrying more metal than anyone else on those elevators.

The heirloom does lend Gwyn a bit of that Jedi flair, as her weapon can be used to deflect as well (though at least she has to change its form for that).

As for recreating the ancestral humanoids, it's possible this was an attempt at just that. It's been quite widely speculated online.

I thought that the inspiration for those suits would be obvious…It surely was obvious to me how they’d get to the surface as soon as I saw them!

If that's the case then that is damn interesting.

I did wonder why Dal's mutated form looks so devilish...
I have just watched last weeks toon and this was going to be my first comment about it… I did not read any spoilers beforehand by looking in this thread. He almost looked like a young Fek’Lhr. Perhaps Dal was engineered to be a galactic equivalent of what the augments were on earth? A galactic ‘super soldier’. Luckily, only his recessive genes were activated making him somewhat of a ‘runt’. I wonder if he has any brothers or sisters etc. though?

I liked the space lift, it was like an updated version of the one that we saw in the Voyager episode ‘Rise’ crossed with the JJ verse Romulan mining drill in visualization.

I have a feeling that we might see the Soong who created Dal voiced by Brent Spiner at some point in the series. That would be cool, Dal could meet his ‘father’. I guess this also explains where Dal got his name from, it sounds like ‘Lal’.

Does anybody have any screen shots of 11 minutes 30 seconds (approx) in to the episode? The part where Dal is doing handstands? Please don’t get annoyed at me for asking for screenshots again as I know that there is a website but I can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head (or find it)… I will bookmark it though this time if someone could kindly post the link again. I like to do handstands too you see, but I noticed that Dal’s straddle handstand technique was not quite right but I believe that this was a fault of the animation team not understanding the bio mechanics of this calisthenic hand balance movement. I tried to make screenshots myself but all I get is a blacked out image. :sigh:

I rate last weeks episode, 9/10.

See below.

Thank you @fireproof78 , but one particular screenshot that I wanted is not there. I’m looking for a screenshot of Dal doing the one armed handstand… this is what I am currently working on at the moment myself in my own handstand practice.

If you look at this picture you will notice that Dal is not pointing his toes, he is instead flexing his feet. I don’t know about his alien anatomy but this would not give the correct muscle engagement in the quadriceps. His hips are not forward of his shoulders above his head either, which means that he has not found his point of equilibrial counterbalance. Also, his legs need to be straighter, they are too bent which means that his hip flexors are not fully engaged.

I shall bookmark this screenshot site for the future. :techman:

**EDIT**
Also, his hands are too close together.

Might he be a poor gymnast, but able to do it anyway due to elevated strength?
Anyway, congratulations! I've never been able to do any kind of handstand.
No, he is a *great* gymnast. I was ironically nitpicking his handstand technique like some Star Trek fans often nitpick other minutia.

If you are interested in handstands click on my Instagram link below, I put videos of me doing handstands up all the time.

If you want to actually learn to do a handstand though, you will have to come to one of my yoga classes… hehe. :D

So that was Jellico. One of the two martinets we all love to hate.

And so
. . . is a Vau N'Akat mole. Interesting.
