"When the crew encounters a dormant Borg Cube, Zero risks everything to save their ship." - TrekMovie.com

They just couldn't resist, could they?
Catch 22. If they cruise the Delta Quadrant and don't encounter the Borg it will be regarded as a "missed opportunity. " If they do show the Borg its just repeating Trek's greatest hits.

Of all the places to explore the Borg I feel thus show may be the most logical. Despite my misgivings, having Janeway present in a follow up to the aftermath of her choices strikes me as reasonable.

Resistance is futile...

I'd like to know where these kooky kids are on the galactic map. Prior to episode eleven, they were near the Gamma Quadrant. Then they find a distant relay station, that is maybe either in a distant corner of the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. If the Borg are involved, maybe they're in the Beta Quadrant, but that's a big leap from the Gamma Quadrant/Delta Quadrant border. The Protostar drive is putting the Spore drive to shame.

I actually don't mind that the Borg are being dealt with in the narrative, and early on in the show's run, because if they weren't, they'd always be the elephant in the room seeing as the show is squarely set in their known area of space. I don't expect the Borg to become a major part of the show, as they did on Voyager.

I remember when Voyager finally brought the Borg into the show in force with Scorpion, I was happy that the fact that they would have to cross through Borg space to get home was being acknowledged. But I was also equally happy when, in the next episode, Kes supposedly flung them beyond Borg space. If the Voyager writing team had just let the Borg go at this point, they might still be considered a scary threat.

Remember that they jumped back to Tars Lamora in episode 10... which is close to the galactic core, but on the border between the Beta and Delta Quadrants.

Also, we don't know if the Protostar did another jump during the 'break' to get closer to UFP.
Dal mentioned in his log its been weeks since they left Tars Lamora and they were trying to do good deeds on the way to Federation space... even if they were at Warp that time, they may have crossed into the Beta Quadrant.

The UFP could have established deep space comms outposts like the one we saw in episode 11 in deep space... possibly to extend their range of regular communications and deep space sensors and maintain better link with the Talaxian colony where Neelix was left at... and also to potentially respond to some inquries for help etc. (especially because they now have both Quantum Slipstream and Proto Drive to cross vast distances in a short amount of time).

That comms station had decent arsenal of weapons from what we saw... so it would be well defended in case of possible attacks (which would be kinda prudent if its operating on its own so far away from the rest of the fleet).
The Denobulan J.G. Lt was the only one on board and the station was fully automated it seems with state of the art facilities - to me that indicates its a deep space relay station/outpost well outside Federation space - possibly thousands of LY's away.

I’ve always seen Prodigy as the spiritual sequel to Voyager so bringing in the borg was inevitable. Looking forward to this one. Maybe 7 of 9 will get a mention in relation to Voyager. I actually would love to see Jeri Ryan on this show one day.

Tars Lamora seems to have been set up in dialogue as being in the Carina Nebula...way antispinward of stars like Canopus and even a and g Carinae!

No. You'll like the full face Borg implants!

I have a feeling this was done to save time/money on designing different faces for each borg.

Same reason why in Star Wars Rebels all the no-name imperial officers had their hats covering half their face.
I always wondered if the reason the Borg makeup changed was because it was somewhat stepping on the cenobite look from Hellraiser and the producers (lawyers) were worried about lawsuits.

I loved those guys!

Borg makeup changed because First Contact had more money to play with than TNG did. Then Voyager took advantage of having a bunch of costumes made on a movie's budget just laying around.

Medusans are Species 802, encountered long before Humans!

It was okay. Loved the look and the atmosphere of the cube, and the kids are maturing nicely. Not a huge fan of the "you can overcome the power of the Borg collective if you really really want to" resolution, because assimilation is the true horror of the Borg. Diluting them down to a monster of the week and the associated catch phrases was a bit "meh". But this is Trek 101, so I guess it's understandable. Looking ahead to next week.

Zero was probably the only one who could resist, cause there's no body :D
You wouldn't see the physical parts of assimilation on a Nick show anyway, and I think they got close to the edge with the spinning claw approaching the bound victims, only for Jankom to steer it into fun by saying no haircut :D
