That’s a neat effect with their eyes matching their energy cloud. It’s been a looooong time since I watched Clues but I’m going to hazard a guess that the types of energy beings that long for corporeal forms are a fringe group of weirdos (I say, lovingly, as a weirdo), marching to the beat of their own drummers and thus the Paxans do not represent their fellow beings (and would effectively “hide” their true nature to any embodied creature who saw them anyhow).

While I do have to say I think it's a bit presumptuous to think so many energy beings want to be humanoid (I was always under the presumption that they were considered a higher form in the Trekverse), it does allow for an interesting exploration of the desire for what we cannot have.
Agreed, I always thought the non-corporeal lifeforms in Star Trek were intended to be the next evolutionary stage of previously corporeal beings. Although, I suppose there would be those among aliens that had so evolved who wanted to revert back.

Another solid episode, I really enjoyed it. We haven't gotten too many Zero-centric episodes, and this was a rather excellent one. I'm glad the aliens ended up being benevolent after all, I think older Trek shows would've made them sinister. My only nitpicks are some of the elements back on Voyager. I'm not sure I really buy the idea that a tricorder couldn't tell they were holograms all along, and I don't think they showed Parrises Squares being dangerous enough to match how Riker used to go on about it.
