Star Trek Picard is not Star Trek

For those that completely disagree with the poster, what would a show with "Star Trek" in the title have to do to get you to admit it isn't very good relative to say, TNG or DS9?
But this was not about 'good'. By my judgement at this point there exist more 'bad' Trek than 'good' Trek. This is actually why these days I hesitate to say that I'm a Star Trek fan. Because I'm not really, I dislike majority of the franchise. But 'bad' Trek is still Star Trek.

BSG induced depression in me so hard. Picard isn't even close.
Not yet. Give it time. :)
I used to love rewatching Trek episodes but with Picard I have no compulsion to. Just doesn’t feel as fun to watch. Even some Discovery episodes had that. Especially the Lorca episodes.

I had it by the miniseries end. I don't use the depression term lightly. Neither DSC nor Picard has induced that deep feeling of dread.

Rewatching? I don't rewatch most Trek. TOS, Abrams Trek, occasional DS9. I don't use that as a measure.

That's a false dichotomy. I hated TNG, it's still Star Trek. Some folks may just want to roll with a Star Fleet ship and crew but a show about those miners and their wives that Mudd hooked them up with would still be Star Trek. A show about Cyrano Jones fast talking, scamming, and petty theft would still be Star Trek. More interesting Trek for many because the upright Star Ship thing has been done many times.

This is ridiculous. You TNG/DS9 Combo Fans just can't accept the possibility that not everyone has the same tastes as you.

For the record: I don't like ENT, the TNG Movies (except FC), and am only so-so on the Abrams Films. So there's plenty that's called "Star Trek" that I'm not a fan of.

Man, I feel like people keep completely missing the point of why episode 5 broke some of our minds. The concept of Picard is fine, great even. It's the details that are the problem. Some stats: Raffi is the only principle that hasn't killed five episodes in...and she's a damaged drug addict with an estranged son. Killing isn't necessarily bad, some of the killing so far has been justified. Far too much of it has shown a surprising disregard for life.

This doesn't necessarily make it a bad show, but it's bad at being what Star Trek was to many of us. A challenging show that ultimately argues to do the right thing. If you're just looking for melodrama, revenge, romance, strife, and action this should scratch your itch. For me, there is more than enough television that does these things really well. Not just for me, but for kids growing up, I'd hope they'd have something like Star Trek in their life as a good influence. Something that among other the fun and conflict, teaches some empathy, critical thinking, and ethics.

After ENT Season 1 I was sad because I realized that the era of Star Trek being relevant was over for the time being, but even with the dreadful Augment Virus story arc I have to admit when the show was good, it was pretty good TV. It was still Star Trek, even though the end of the franchise was in the foreseeable future.

After VOY Season 1 I thought "WTF?????" and hoped the next episodes of DS9 would wash that foul taste from my mouth. But it still was Star Trek and when the show was good, it was Scorpio part 2

You rely on a false assumption; I don’t think TNG is very good overall. Some episodes are brilliant, some are fun, a lot are mediocre to bad. I prefer Discovery and, on the very limited content to date, Picard to TNG.

DS9 has a higher strike rate, and is my favourite Trek series, but is far from flawless.

I’ve yet to see a Trek series which doesn’t have significant flaws, but the only one I’d regard as mostly unwatchable is TAS (though I skip more TNG than I view on rewatches).

When the story ends and hadn't given me those things I'll be critical.

I still miss the point. I don't get it
